Note: This isn’t an article related to car enthusiasts but from time to time I’d like to offer my opinion on the happenings in and around the city.

As you are probably well aware, last night the Canadiens defeated the Boston Bruins 5-0 in game 7 of the Eastern conference quarter-finals. After the game, fans poured into the streets in peaceful celebration. This was not limited to downtown either but all over the city. From Brossard to Vaudreuil cars were honking their horns and people waving flags to announce their joy.

Unfortunately there were many people who took it one notch too high. In scenes reminiscent from the 1993 Stanley Cup win vandals started destroying the city and specifically targeting police cars. One group of youths threw a Molotov cocktail into the open window of a police cruiser to set it ablaze. These people were probably planning this long before the party and do not represent anyone but the thugs themselves.

As you can see from the condemnation in the thread discussing the riots, an overwhelming majority of fans are simply appalled at the events from last night. Hopefully there will not be a repeat because it serves nothing to destroy local shops, city property or police property.

Its proven Know that it was not Habs fans that started this riot,

helicopter views show that there were a few people walking up st-cathrine street with poles and molotov cocktails in hand ready to start trouble, this was pa planned attack on the city and they used the habs game as a cover to do so…

These people need some serious help

Personally I dont see the point of this, If you are Happy! Celebrate! Grab a Beer! Cheer! Yell! Honk! Wave a Flag! But Why destroy…. If to celebrate you must destroy something, we need to get a psychiatrist for these people!

i was standing in front of one of the police cars that was being destroyed and set on fire, lucky for everyone that nobody was smart enough to open the trunk and get hold of the shotgun, but one guy got hold of the computer from inside the car, NOTE: nobody hitting the car was a canadiens fan they were all thug/gang members with their bandanas covering there facing yelling ” fuck the police n**ga ” , 2 of the guys had handguns tucked in the front of their pants, and the disgustying thing about it is that they were chanting “go habs go” as the cars burned

Dequoi tu parle toi??

sebas180 completely agree with you man, what type of idiot says it’s the cops fault, first off windows got broken not left open, and second off morons “Do you really think of throwing a molotov cocktail into a car with an opened window… for sure the people who think it’s the cops fault are dumb young punks…almost as stupid as these f-ing thugs who give our great city a bad image by pulling sh*t like this

  21. MitchRacing on Wednesday April 23th, 2008 07:00 PM

All I can say is, ridiculous, need to get these people who want to protray a “thuglife” off the streets. Montrealers, Quebecers, Canadians are known to be good people, these people are destroying our image. That night the real habs fans where walking in the streets waving flags, having fun not destroying OUR city. This city belongs to all of us, we gotta get bring these ignorant people to justice.

  22. smurfhunter on Wednesday April 23th, 2008 07:00 PM

First off, not everybody who trashed cop cars were gang members and thugs and whatnot, boogey-man, the ppl you saw on the news were my friends… they were idiots, they got excited and saw some other people destroying cars and decided to do it too, but they were too dumb and got arrested
