isnt the Ferrari enzo the most expensive car ?
I think it's more like the most expensive price tag for a car from a "dealership".
The Enzo is sold around 2 million $ but that's for a "used" Enzo, so that price is not from factory. An Enzo is listed at around 650 000$ I think.
Volkswagen is aborting everything, and most probably the Bugatti Veyron will never be produced. Car has been delayed several times, max speed and power keep being reduced, engine and trannies keep blowing up, thing is unstable as hell, etc...
original delivery date was in late 2003... now it's late 2005 and will be delayed again or bagged completely most probably.
for a million euro id buy a CLK GTR

yeah thats right... it was like 650k a when they first came out but since they are really rare and that they made like 300 of so of them, the prices went way up.
ooh.. and for the person who said that ferrari's had us by the balls .... well ferrari is the best ever ... especialy the enzo as it is made completly out of carbon fiber !

You did know most of the real supercars were made of carbon fiber right. The SLR, Koenigsegg, Mclaren F1, CLK GTR, ect ...
My choice would be the Koenigsegg CCR, the doors on that car simply amaze me everytime Jeremy Clarkson from "Top Gear" opens them !!!
I'd get a 47' Fountain Lightning with 4 1100HP inboard Mercuries
I say it's worth it !!!
"It produces 1001 horsepower (by metric measure; that's a less aesthetically round 986 hp by the American system) from an 8.0-liter, 16-cylinder engine that's fed by four turbochargers. Torque, you ask? Try about 950 foot-pounds."
AHHHHHHH!!! 8.0L 16Cylinders Quad-Turbo...I just shit my pants !!!
The clk-gtr is sick! and if it ever breaks down m-b will fly a crew from germany within 24 hours to fix it for you. thats service!
id kill for a mclaren f1 though. so fast yet drives like any other car.
the enzo would be a great track car but id never buy one. they have been having major problems with the car. i mean ferari's are not reliable anyway but the enzos are litteraly falling apart on the owners.
this bugatti looks like a winner though... 8.0L 16Cylinders Quad-Turbo..sounds like fun.
why does everyone think that the enzo is the most expensive car around and the best car around. Ferrari has you people by the balls
Amen to that. For some reason I'll never understand, the city of Montreal seems obsessed with Ferrari. I can't believe how many Ferrari stickers I've seen on the backs of Civics and minivans! WTF is up with that?
And there's a HUGE Ferrari fetish on this board. I was hammered for daring to suggest that Ferrari has made some crappy cars. The funny thing? I've driven dozens of Ferraris over the years, both on the street and track. The guys attacking me had never even gotten a ride in one (let alone gotten behind the wheel) yet they felt justified in "educating" me as to how the Mondial, 348 TB, and 308/328 were "instant classics." Just ridiculous. Show up at an FOC meeting with a Mondial and see what kind of reception you get!

lol, didn't realize I scarred you that much, sorry :o
anyway they still made more instant classics than any company still existing today.
and BTW, you should go out of Montreal sometimes and see what the rest of the world looks like. You will most likely see more red flags per person in asia, southamerica and europe than here....

I'll believe it when I see car mags do full reviews of production Veyrons.
There are several issues delaying the car.
1. Tires. The top speed is so high that a special tire needs to be made that also works on the street. Forbes mentions that Michelin has figured it out.
2. Gearbox. Trying to move 1000 HP through any gearbox is a challenge. With 4 turbos the torque is so huge that almost any streetable gearbox turns into a tooth salad. They can't use a real racing dogtooth gearbox because the clients would expect an easy to drive car for their million bucks.
This car is trying to be different than an Enzo. The Enzo is a racecar masquerading as a street car. Does it very well but the nature of it shows up a lot. Bugatti is trying have a more luxurious supercar. The Veyron is more a McLaren F1 competitor but with more HP. The F1 had something like 650 HP out of a NA engine. The McLaren succeeds very well at being a good street car and a monster on the track. The Veyron is trying the same but it is not that easy. Just shows you that McLaren do know how to build cars well.
Montreal is home of the second largest Italian community, outside of Italy. First is New-York...
And we have a F1 GP...
And Gilles was from around...
That could go a long way to explain Montreal's obsession with Ferrari.
Have you guy's seen the Maserati MC12 ? Mmmmmh...

Weird, CarnDriver (first link I found from Google) did not do as well with that car...
http://www.caranddriver.com/article.asp?section_id=26&article_id=3414&page_number=1
But you don't care about oil changes. You want to know what kind of stomach-sucking numbers the 427 Vette can muster, and our test car did not disappoint. How does 0 to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds grab you? Or 0 to 100 mph in 7.8 seconds? That's almost a full second quicker to 60 mph than the stock Z06.
While a 120hp Elise (base line) will do 0-60 mph in 5.7 sec...
And a S111R (189hp Toyota engine) will do it in 4.9 sec...
Your straight will have to be pretty long in order to loose a 300+hp Elise !
Each to his own liking. I find straight lines boring... Hurray for twisties ! :D

LanEvo, what is wrong with Ferrari? I think the 3xx Ferrari's are nice. I remember drooling in front of the TV watching Magnum P.I.'s 308GTS for years. LanEvo, what is wrong with Ferrari?
Nothing's wrong with Ferrari. They're just a car complany that makes plenty of nice cars...but like all car companies, they've made some dogs in their day. I'm just surprised that everyone seems to forget that fact and gets rabid if someone makes some genuine, informed criticisms of their cars.
I think the 3xx Ferrari's are nice. I remember drooling in front of the TV watching Magnum P.I.'s 308GTS for years.
The 308/328 may look nice, but they're crap to drive. Sorry, but that's a fact. I'm into driving cars (usually hard and on the track), not just looking at them...so I'm not that impressed with that particular car, which really does not handle or brake worth sh*t.
I really don't understand what you mean. I never drove a Mclaren F1, or a Jaguar E-type, or a AC cobra, do I need to drive them before saying they are awesome cars?
How can you have such a strong opinion about a car if you've never driven it? A car is meant to be driven. I seem to be in a (very small) minority here, but I think a car is a tool for driving. If it doesn't handle well and behave well at the limit, then I'm not impressed...no matter how cool it looks or how nice the engine sounds. I've driven lots of Ferraris and many have been very impressive. Some have not. Why is this such a big deal?
You really can't figure out why Ferrari is so popular in Montreal? That's is kind of offensive and a very sad comment. I have a small Ferrari sticker on my M3 on the license plate.
Lemme get this straight. It's a "sad comment" when someone forms an independent opinion? You're "offended" that someone does not worship every single Ferrari ever made (even the crappy ones)? Wow. I wonder what would happen if someone insulted your mom or something! But I understand what you mean: I find the idea of a Ferrari sticker on the back of an M3 mildly disturbing ;)
By the way, when was the last time a production Ferrari has won a major road race? They used to dominate touring car racing until the 1960's. What happened? They've been soundly beaten by Porsche ever since the late 1960's. Even today, the BMW M3 GTR, Porsche 911, Corvette C5R, and Viper have been dominating touring car racing. Why aren't there any Modenas on the podium?

Actually Maranellos have dominated FIA-GT for the past two seasons, the N-GT Modenas aren't doing too badly either. I think a Maranello won the GTS class at Le Mans in 2003 as well.
Weird, CarnDriver (first link I found from Google) did not do as well with that car...
Well, the car you linked to is missing two turbos compared to the 427TT package that runs 1.9 on the 0-60.

And from 1963 to 2003? How many times has Porsche won in the last 30 years? You can't really compare a couple of seasons to the complete domination Porsche has shown in touring car and prototype racing series...especially Le Mans.
BTW, the Prodrive prepared Maranellos are certainly very impressive machines. It's nice to see Ferrari finally competitive again against Porsche. Makes the racing more interesting when one make doesn't dominate. Let's hope Ferrari manages to keep it up.

The respective racing history of Ferrari and Porsche are very different. Porsche has terrible F1 racing record. from the late 50s to mid 60s they managed only a couple of podiums and quit when their driver died. In same period Ferrari was dominating LeMans and everything on the road until they had terrible economic problems in late 60s. They withdrew from road racing and only competed in F1. They kind of went completely different ways...
As for Road Racing. Any car can be tunned to perform, just look at the CTS-V that won the tremblant250 last week. Does it make it better in road trim than a 996?
The point is that there is more to it
Anyway, looking at road cars, look at what won the tremblant 250 last week... does that make it better than a road Ferrari or Porsche?
I missed the race last weekend (I was on call in the hospital...again!) so I really don't know who won. But, look, I never said that all Porsches were categorically better than all Ferraris. Porsche has made some crappy cars, too. Remember the 924? And the 914 wasn't so hot at first. Why can't we approach Ferrari the same way? Why do we have to worship every car that ever left the gates of Maranello and fly into a blind rage when someone offers the slightest critique?
What bothers me is when people go on and on as if Ferrari is just the be-all-end-all and get furious when you make a reasonable statement based on personal observations. I respect certain Ferraris greatly (the F40 and 288 GTO in particular), I was very impressed with my friend's 355 Challenge racecar on the track, and I love the sound of a 512 BB starting up as much as the next guy. But that doesn't mean I'll force myself to overlook the shortcomings when they become evident.
I love the feel of my Evo on the track. Does that mean I have to pretend I wouldn't prefer higher quality interior materials? Would I snap someone's head off if they commented that the rear window occasionally rattles over large bumps?

Your post changed a bit after I gave my reply! So I'll just say one thing more.
You're essentially saying "so what if Porsche wins touring car races...does that mean they make a better streetcar?" I can see what you're getting at. But, I can just as easily say "so what if Ferrari dominates F1...does that mean they make the best streetcars?" BMW does better at F1 than McLaren. Does that mean you'd prefer an E46 M3 CSL to a McLaren GTR?
As far as I'm concerned, a model's performance in production car racing is at least slightly more indicative of the relative strengths of the street versions they're based on.

Would I snap someone's head off if they commented that the rear window occasionally rattles over large bumps?

the Powell Motorsport CTS-V won, but I just read it got disqualified for fuel capacity infringement...
anyway let's continue this discussion in PM if you want we are hijacking the thread.

Wow, Cadillac's really making a big push. I know there were lots of complaints in SCCA World Challenge that the CTS-V's were just too far removed from the road versions to be fair competition. I wonder what kind of package they put together for Grand Am.

Well we might not be talking about the same series, since there are defenately no cadillac entries in the Rolex series...
EDIT: I just compared the entries and results on www.autocourse.ca, and the revised standings on the Grand american site.. and it does'nt make sense... Terry Borcheller drove a Daytona prototype... but seems like he was disqualified on a Caddilac, that was'nt even entered in the race.... weird shit got me confused now lol
ummmmmm
300hp elises??
vauxhauls??
le mans??
montreals obsesion with ferrair?
all great topic but.......
what was the post called??? oh ya..
what is the most expensive car ever sold out the the showroom............
most expensive car ever sold out was the Formula one 1954 Mercedes W196 raced by Juan Manuel Fangio and Stirling Moss. :D not sure it was in a showroom
$24 million dollars
Well, I guess Tex just settled the most expensive price tag argument !
It was fun to read tough. Fun to see how some peoples criterias for evaluating the value of a car can change depending on what brand the talk about.
I guess when you want a specific brand to be favored, on dismissed, you have to play a bit with your perception...

Emre
Too busy dominating in F1 lolz....
Forza Ferrari....
By the way 328 gts and the 308 typo testa is great to drive....

sheesh, man you should learn to relax, and let people post whatever they want
LanEvo. the sadness of your comment comes from the fact you cannot make the difference between the cars, the factories, the tuners and the racing stables, and from the fact that according to your distorted logic someone who has never driven a Ferrari *cannot and should not* support and appreciate the achievements of the Scuderia Ferrari of the past 50 years.

Why do people have to be such fanboys about Ferrari? I am certain LanEvo recognizes that they have made their share of fine cars. What he speaks out against is the blind faith that anything coming out of Ferrari's factory is the automotive equivalent of absolute perfection. Many fanboys just assume that if the car has a the little horsie on the hood then it must make grown men cry at the sight of its awesome glory. Just recognize that there is no perfect car company and there never was. Cars are made by people not Gods of the Olympus (even Ferraris).

I'm sorry...but I seem to be the only one around here that CAN "make the difference [sic] between the cars, the factories, the tuners and the racing stables" as you put it! My whole point is that just because Ferrari kicks ass in F1, that doesn't mean that ALL of their street cars should be worshipped. It's the Ferrari cheerleaders on this board that fall into the trap you've described. Have you even read my posts?

Exactly. As I said, I've driven some Ferraris that are very impressive. The 355 Challenge in particular. Terrific handling, amazing engine sound. It's almost enough to make you forget about the bad driving position, grauncy shifter, and Fiat switchgear ;) The F40 and 288 GTO are among my absolute favorite cars in the world, despite their known flaws.

Exactly. Is it a coincidence that MstBlstr is a track junkie, too? In my (admittedly not particularly humble) opinion, there is only one modern production car that comes close to automotive perfection...and that's the Porsche 996 GT3.

I think you are mixing two very different race series:
- the Grand Am Cup for "stock" cars (which includes Cadillac CTS-Vs)
- The Grand American Rolex Sports Car series (which includes Daytona Prototypes)
Terry Borscheller was racing in both classes @ Tremblant, in a Powell Motorsport CTS-V (Stock) and in a Bell Motorsport Doran Pontiac (DP).
Anoter extremely expensive car from the factory was the Dauer Porche 962 Le Mans (street version)

You should have been at Tremblant this weekend. The GT3s were flying.
Also the Bill Chadwick/Lawrence Strohl duel was spectacular.

Yeah, I'm really pissed that I had to miss the NER event. Especially since it sounds like all my track buddies were there. I would have liked to see Serge and Cherif's new 2.5L E30 M3 on the track. Cherif mentioned that they were going through 5-liter jugs of Sunoco 104 like it was going out of style! I'm not sure if such a high-strung engine makes sense in a driver's school setting...but it sounds like they had a blast.
Which car was Lawrence driving?
