I might be sanding/ polishing my fathers valve covers off his 71 buick skylark. He cant really find new ones anywhere and buyin new ones off the net is really pricy. I remember there was a thread on the best way to to this a while ago but i cant seem to find it. Can someone help me out by either helping me find the thread or telling me how to do it??

Look at Moroso, Mr.Gasket, and Proform for the valve covers, probably chrome ones but at least they're new :dunno:

my dad looked at TA but the 250$ us for them, then +shipping and handeling and all that, it wouldnt be worth it, might as well just refinish the ones he has on now for free... I searched google, found some stuff also but its mostly all really exspensive. There not too much stuff for buicks in canada, my fathers in the auto parts buissness and could hardly find anything through there. Anywayz tnx for your help

In the http://www.performancechrome.com/en-us/dept_334.html link, theres a set of steel chrome ones 39.95 US.....Its not that expensive at about 55 CAD plus shipping.

For your valve covers you'll have to de-grease them (1hr), sandblast them (.5 hours) and paint them (.25 hrs, plus drying time) - So about 2 hours of labour IF all goes well. Add in the cost of the de-grease solution and paint, and you can easily see that its not "free" to re-finish yours. AND, theyre not chrome :p.

It might end up being easier to just order a new set, and maybe even cheaper depending on how much your time is worth. Don't get me wrong, I'm all into DIY, but for something like valve covers it just seems to make more sense to change them for nice shiney new ones.
