'' Regular Talk Audio readers my recall my writing about how I have been out to test a new safety awareness device that can keep you alert to any emergency vehicles near you. It ‘reads’ the airwaves using the special radio system frequencies exclusive to emergency vehicles. This is called TETRA, which stands for Terrestrial Trunked Radio and is a digital standard for radio communication used by almost all emergency services in Europe. In the UK, the TETRA network for emergency services is called Airwave.''

( Also called BD )

Interesting but if I understand this right, if the cop car near you doesn't transmit (doesn't talk in his radio), this device wont detect anything right?

No , the cop can be in complete radio silence , it is the Tetra system that ticks a signal every 4 seconds ,
which is picked up.

A friend has it in UK and he finds the tool fantastic ...he saved lot of $ by discovering in advance
cops ambushed with radar instant on or laser.

It seems expensive ...but with the high fines and you do lot of road...
For some people : no licence = no work = no money = better hang your-self.

Almost all law enforcement agencies use TETRA or TETRAPOL in Europe for interoperability purposes. However, North America has no such standard. So it would be useless over here.

Furthermore, in Quebec, agencies operate on different frequency bands & system types, and most of them use systems which stay silent if the officer is not talking or sending/requesting data. Even trunked systems are hard to track because the units just listen to a radio channel and do not transmit if not explicitly required to do so.
