Seems to be muscle mania day today, after the new SRT-8 here comes the Camaro ZL1. And yes, this one comes with a stick.

Chevrolet has finally delivered the goods: the 550-plus-horsepower, 6.2-liter supercharged LSA V-8 version of the Camaro. Most expected it to be called the Z28, but it's called the ZL1. And it's pretty awesome.

Chevy's still being vague about official power numbers, but it'll pack an "estimated" 550 horsepower and 550 pound-feet of torque from its LSA V-8engine. It also gets a high-torque MG9 version of the Tremec TR-6060 six-speed manual transmission, a dual-mode exhaust borrowed from the Corvette, a beefed up driveshaft and rear axle setup, a heavy-duty limited-slip differential, magnetic ride suspension with two driver-selectable modes, 14.6- and 14.4-inch front and rear brake rotors, six-piston calipers up front and four-pistons out back, plus a range of interior and exterior tweaks that are best observed in the photos.

All standard Camaro colors will be available for the outside, but it'll only come in black on the inside. All ZL1s also get heated leather seats, plus the standard content found in the 2SS package of the Camaro SS.

As for when you'll be able to buy it: sometime early in 2012, most likely, as final testing will be completed "through the balance of 2011."

ZL1 is a stupid name, it should have been the Z28 and the front bumper looks off.

But the wheels look amazing, the new exhaust looks really cool and the whole package is fucking badass.

Wasn't the ZL1 a limited production run? So either they are planning to make these in limited numbers or they are preparing all the mullet heads for it's "limited" pricing. It would be a shame if they price this out of reach.

The ZL1 is some drag only limited edition. Doesn't fit with this....

And it doesn't matter if the Z28 in 1990 was shit because any Camaro after like 1975 is crap.

ZL1 au depart est un moteur qui en 1969 etais un 427 en alu de 550hp en option sur une camaro hyper depouillé l'option du moteur coutais aussi cher que la camaro elle meme

info sur se moteur

Development of the ZL1 engine moved slowly. The aluminum block required extensive work for street/drag racing use. Cast-iron sleeves were used in the aluminum block, retained with a 1/16-inch groove at the top of the block. The main bearing bulkheads were beefed, and many of the bolt and stud threads throughout the engine were lengthened for greater strength. The forged steel rods were thicker in the caps and the shank base, with bigger 7/16-inch rod bolts. Along with the open chamber design, the heads received bigger exhaust ports than the L88, were round instead of square and boasted bigger 1.88-inch valves. That resulted in exhaust valve lift being increased to .600 and the duration shortened to 359 degrees. The ZL1 was the first Chevrolet production use of the 850-cfm double-pumper Holley carburetor on an open plenum high-rise intake manifold. Chevrolet rated the ZL1 at 430 hp @ 5200 rpm and 450 lb-ft @ 4400 rpm. However, dyno tests of factory ZL1s revealed their output was more in the 550hp range.
