Call of Duty Nazi Zombies Mystery Box Build

So a friend's birthday just came up and I decided to make a functional Nazi Zombies Mystery box complete with the pulsating lights and jingle.

It's a simple box with a 5 switch combination in front. I don't do woodworking on a daily basis so you might see some imperfection. Also, given the amount of time I had to build it (couple days off hours from work), there are some things I would have liked to add

PWM driver, switches, dead latch and the electric strike

The box is obviously smaller than the real version in the game, 30"X12"x12". The wood is basic 1/4" plywood. Since the walls of the box are so thin, you'll need some joints to hold everything together with nails.

Next up, time to quickly draw out the box plans and cut it up!

With everything cut up to measurements, HAMMER TIME!

Now this is starting to look like a box! Picked up some black hinges to resemble the ones in the game

Next, time to get some question marks on the lid. Just print the size you want, cut it out then draw the outline on the box

Time to do the cutouts. I'm sure you can do it with a jigsaw, but a router always comes in handy to make those smooth lines. This is my first time using the router, so please don't mind the imperfections:p

Now it really looks like the Mystery Box

Next up, time to put some lighting in this box. I think 900 lumens worth of LEDs are enough:p

IMG_20110308_195221.jpg

Since I wanted the lighting to pulsate like a beating heart(slowly increasing then slowly dimming back down) I need to make a PWM driver for the LED. It only requires a PIC and a couple lines of coding.

Yes, IT'S ALIVE!

Also took the time to install the electric strike. It would have been nice to use a simple servo instead but I had it laying around so I used it.

Now, time to make the power switches, just in the game you must first turn on the power.

Made all the holes I needed, then removed the hinges. Time to paint!

While it's drying, time to make the combination lock. It's pretty simple. 5 ON-OFF-ON switches. Connect it properly to the chosen pattern

Sound module finally arrived. This is a 200sec USB sound module. Dump any mp3 file in it and it will play it. Since this was designed to be used in a greeting card, that little speaker is weak. Time to hook it up to an amplified computer speaker and connect the module to a normally closed switch on the lid. Since I am running on a 12V battery, I needed a 9V voltage regulator for the speaker.

Type up classified CIA documents. This paper includes all the clues to how to open the box. The CIA document is to figure out how to turn on the power. "without power, nothign can be done"

Next up are the clues to the combination. The person is turning 28. 28 = Decimal = BIN = 11100. Which means the switches must be in this pattern. The second clue to the combination is this fake Happy Birthday sheet. As you can tell, the notes are all wrong on purpose, the same note pattern appears across the sheet. ON-ON-ON-OFF-OFF

Put everything in the box, add hay to hide everything, then top it off with a teddy bear!

FINAL TESTING!

This is how it works:
  1. Turn on the power, 2 green switches on the side
  2. Once the power is on, the box with light up and start pulsating
  3. Next, the combination must be entered
  4. Once it unlocks, you will hear a buzzer and DEFCON 5 will light up
  5. Open the box, triggering the sound module to play the Mystery Box jingle!

Final step, bring to a Supperclub, let's say Macaroni Bar and place a douchebag wearing Parasuco clothing next to the box! This guy is NOT me btw
