Buying a car from Ontario?

I'm looking to buy a car from Ontario and would like to know what's the procedure. It's a 1992 but it has passed safety and emissions inspections this year.

Does it have to be inspected again in Quebec before it can be plated? Do i have to expect some surprise taxes from the SAAQ?
 
Buy the car in ontario

Got to the DMV, get a 15$ temp plate

Drive it back (make sure you have insurance)

Get it inspected before the 7 day temp plate expires

Go get it plated at the SAAQ


Iv'e done it 2 times, EV has done it too.
 
Just an fyi, the safety is ontario is rather lax comapred to quebec's. Where most cars fail is at the emissions, which quebec doesn't check. Even if it passe dontario safety, don't fool yourself thinking it will pass Quebec's outright haha. It will most likely not.
 
je viens de faire la procédure pour une tsx 2004 achetée à ottawa.

en ordre :
tu vas la voir, tu la fais inspecter là-bas whatever tu donnes un dépôt tu pars avec ou tu reviens la chercher.
là-bas tu vas au bureau des plaques de l'ontario la fille va faire les papiers et te donner un transit pour 10 jours, sa coute 17$
ici tu la fais inspecter comme il faut par un ami mécanicien si tu l'as pas déjà fais.
tu remplaces tout ce qui fait pas l'affaire.
tu vas faire faire ton inspection. sa coute environ 100$.
tu vas à la saaq et tu la fais plaquer à ton nom, une fois que tu as passé l'inspection.
 
slightly off topic here, si J'acheterais une RHD en Ontario (pas une r34 quand meme) et que je fais le meme procedure que LePolak et Grat_master ont mentioner, would it work?
est-ce que quelqu'un a deja importer une RHD d'Ontario et l'a passer ici slick?

SAAQ will not accept any inspection from a RHD car. Therefore, you can't plate it. No matter where it comes from.

Nop, no rhd unless its 25 years old

oui. les voitures qui sont rhd sur les routes, ont été inspectées et plaquées avant que la nouvelle loi passe. une loi qui change ne peut pas pénalisé quelqu'un rétro activement.
 
Something very important to mention when going to DMV:
-Make sure you bring at least TWO government ID's with pictures(ie: Drivers licence and Passport)
-Have proof of insurance with you
 
And what about the tax? must it be paid in Ontario first, paid in Quebec and then recover your taxes from Ontario?
 
You do not pay any taxes in Ontario if you buy from a private seller because you are not playing the car there.

Taxes are paid in Quebec.

Unless the car is 10 years or older, you say you paid 1$ and have no taxes.
