    Ontario Police Remove Plate, Tow Car For Stretched Tires

    Fitted 2015 is an annual show held at the Brampton fairgrounds in Ontario. The theme of the show focuses on wheel fitment so one can expect to see numerous setups involving stretched tires and very low cars.

    Much to the dismay of the show participants police were out in full force searching for vehicles that were deemed “unsafe” and one such vehicle was Mike Howe’s Nissan 370Z (pictured above).

    According to witnesses, Howe was attempting to enter the show as a competitor and was intercepted by law enforcement while on private property. They informed him that they stopped him because complaints were received about his driving. The officers deemed his vehicle unsafe and then proceeded to remove his license plate and tow his vehicle. His registration was also confiscated.

    Show management tried asking the officers for leniency given that a car show was taking place but they were having none of it.

    In Ontario, police officers have full discretion as to what they can deem “unsafe”. An officer can decide to have your vehicle taken off the road on the spot if your vehicle doesn’t sit right with them.

    When compared to laws regarding modified vehicles in Quebec, it would seem like we might actually be better off than Ontarians given such ambiguity. The only thing we could find online about the subject was an official document that attempts to explain Ontario’s Highway Traffic Act. You can read that document here.

    =========================================

    Fitted 2015 est une exposition annuelle tenue aux terrains de Brampton fairgrounds, en Ontario. Les configurations de roue, mieux connu par le terme «wheel fitment », attirent une énorme quantité de visiteurs, tous passionnés par la même chose : les voitures modifiées. Les visiteurs de Fitted 2015 s’attendent à pouvoir visionner plusieurs voitures équipées de roues stancées, de pneus stretchés ainsi que des suspensions rabaissées au maximum.

    Au grand désespoir des participants de l’exposition, les services policiers locaux étaient aux aguets des voitures considérées non-sécuritaires. Un propriétaire malchanceux nommé Mike Howe ainsi que sa Nissan 370Z (au dessus) se sont fait ciblés par les policiers.

    D’après des témoignages d’autres participants, Howe tentait d’entrer l’événement et fut intercepté par les forces de l’ordre alors qu’il était visiblement sur un terrain privé. Les policiers informèrent M. Howe qu’ils l’arrêtaient en raison de plusieurs plaintes reçues par rapport à sa conduite. Les agents de la force de l’ordre ont considéré que le véhicule n’était pas en état de rouler sur la route et confisquèrent les enregistrements ainsi que les plaques du véhicule de M. Howe.

    Les organisateurs de l’événement ont essayé de communiquer avec les policiers afin de leur demander de rester clément envers les participants. Aucune coopération de la part des policiers n’a été accordée.

    En Ontario, contrairement au Québec, les policiers peuvent être discrétionnaires de ce qu’ils considèrent non-sécuritaire sur un véhicule. Ils peuvent donc faire remorquer votre véhicule sur le champ, si un policier a le pressentiment que votre véhicule ne devrait pas être sur la route.

    En comparant les lois Ontariennes concernant les véhicules modifiés à celles du Québec, il semblerait que les Québécois disposent de beaucoup de plus de liberté que nos voisins de l’ouest. Les seules informations que nous avons trouvé sur internet ayant rapport aux Lois Ontariennes sont indiquées dans le document que vous pouvez lire en anglais ici.

    Any time I see a car modified like that, it is clear to me that the owner is seeking for attention, most of the time does not know how to drive and-or use a wrench, and would trade anything for an extra two inches of Migos.

    The thing I find most surprising about the police is they don't fear any future payback. Did they ever think that a guy who finds their identity wouldn't say vandalize their personal cars to get even with them.

    well that'd be stupid, if he remembers/see you, you're in deep sh*t
    and usually they stay low profile because they know some stupid guy CAN try something
