Apple in talks to buy McLaren

Apple in talks to buy Mclaren???

Interesting...

Apple is interested in McLaren for its technology, engineering prowess and patent portfolio, the newspaper said, citing people briefed on the talks.

McLaren was likely to be valued at between 1 billion pounds and 1.5 billion pounds ($1.3 billion and $1.95 billion) the paper said. That would make it Apple’s biggest acquisition since the $3 billion purchase of Beats Electronics, the audio group founded by Dr Dre and Jimmy Iovine, in 2014.

I wonder how much Ron Dennis is willing to hand over? McLaren is more than just cars though, they have some excellent analictical software... Apple though really needs to spend some of that money

Maybe Apple need to declare some losses for "tax purposes" after their fiasco in Europe where they owe millions including in England.

There is no amount of "declared losses" that apple could come up with that would offset it's deferred tax obligations.

Considering that the 2 main design guys at apple are both british and massive car guys, this doesn't surprise me that much. I doubt apple has any interest in their racing and sports cars. They just want the talent and tech a spinoff devision is more likely.

2-3B$ c'est du pocket change pour apple..

Je ne vois pas trop pourquoi ils acheteraient McLaren..

Tesla has proven that it is easier to commercialise market breaking automotive innovations from the luxury market and downward. Considering McLaren's technological portfolio and brand positioning, it makes sense.

Also besides the high-performance stuff McLaren really is up there in terms of pushing automotive technology.

People love to rave about tesla and it's electric car, but what really makes the Model S an exeptional car? The battery tech? The software? The performance?

If it's the battery tech, Tesla's gigafactory is going to produce way more batteries than it needs, they will certainly be supplying other manufacturers. The software and performance? Pretty sure an Apple-McLaren tie would make them big leaders in this area.

Each time you update your icar it drives slower and slower until it gets passed by bicycles on the plateau.

McLaren denies very strongly. If this story is true though, it looks like apple is turning more and more into a VC company, which could partly explain the low PE ratio.

I read an article this morning saying these reports are false. I'll share it when I get home.
