Hi , first currently looking for a bike under 3k , 3000$ is REALLY a maximum for me. I need something bigger than a 600cc , im 6'2 , 230 lbs and ive been riding motocross (450cc) only.

I looked over the net for the best bike for the buck , there's a couple of nice yamaha r1 , some cbr900 a couple of zx-9 , i want to know what you guys would recommend me , i dont care about insurrance or anything , i just need advice on bike models and reliability , since i know more about motocross than bike.

Thanks in advance!

** P.S : don't bother offering me your bike on sale , im only buying in 1 month or so. *** (i don't want to waste you guys time)

Dont sell yourself short 600cc Super Sports still have kick to them, im 6'0 feet, 210 lbs. trust me ur size and weight isnt taking nothing away from the 600s power. Thats just my oppinion, have a selection in the 600 series just opens more doors for u.

Yeah don't rule out 600CC bikes. They have more than enough power to haul your fat ass up to 200+ very quickly. I weigh 230ish with all my gear on and my R6 is fast enough on the track.

600cc is too much for a first bike..whatever your age, height or weight...period.

but you can manage it...forget bigger bike!

do you know you can race cars even with a gs500?

eeesh, r1 for a first bike?

i aunno, i find it's more than enough with 600cc sports for a first bike.
in fact, i'll never need more than that.

when was the last time your R6 was on a track?

Ok cool guys , keep it clean , im just asking for informations , if im underestimating the 600 class is just because my friend rides a 600 and he told me that i would need something bigger , but i never tried one.

Now that i know that some guys weight same as me on 600 and have plenty of power , now i can look into 600cc , i just need more informations than judgment.

But im still wondering if my motocross background will counter the fact that its my first speed bike , i know its two different world but i can ride pretty hard on a wr450 , will i have that much difficulty to ride a r1 as first ride ?

you will feel comfortable but skills will not directly transfer over... its really a different beast other than driving at low speeds and balance

if you're gonna ride the highways then an R1 is fine. Mind you, if you have an excited wrist you can get in a shitload of trouble.

The only problem is getting on the highway, you might get too excited and enter a highway entrance way too fast for your own skill and end up in the ditch. OR (and this is a true story) you could end up like the kid who bought an R1 as his first bike and wanted to merged onto the 40W off the 15N (Decarie, that long uphill sweeping left turn), well he was coming in too fast and never made the turn, in fact he never made anything after that.

Mind you, you can end up kissing the wall on a 600cc as well, but the 1000cc always has enough power to make you **** up.

ok , now thats some really helpful informations. And if we mix the entire 600 to 1000cc category , what would be a great bike for 3k , and at that price should i put 1000 more to get something WAY different than what i will get for 3000$

Thanks alot for the help!

Get a kawasaki Z750 or a Honda 599 hornet. The new Suziki SV650 (Gladius) is also pretty nice.

Plenty of power to keep you entertained but a lot less aggressive than a SS.

EDIT: Oh wait... you want something in the 3-4000 range so forget the new SV650

I know it's the right thing to do or say,but I wonder how many of us that love SS really began with something else.I know I did not.So with that, you can have a really good SS 600cc bike years ranging from 2000-2005 for 3-4 k,just look at lespac.com.

And if indeed you do go with a 600cc SS,be careful pass the 9k rpm, that's where the power begin on these and where you'll scream out loud Oh shit! the first time.

Be safe and enjoy.
