The Porsche 911 GT2 is the last variant of the 997-series 911 to receive its mid-cycle update and in typical GT2 style the last update comes just before the current generation of Porsche’s iconic supercar reaches the end of its product cycle.

The all-new ‘991’ Porsche 911 is just over a year away so the facelifted 911 GT2, seen previously testing in prototype form, will have a very short shelf-life.

Expected to debut at this October’s 2010 Paris Auto Show, the latest Porsche 911 GT2 is tipped to pick up the “RS” moniker and according to the latest reports, this leaked image reveals the new car. It was taken a recent dealer presentation in Leipzig, Germany.

According to reports, the Porsche 911 GT2 RS will feature a 620 horsepower output and will weigh almost 200 pounds lighter than the already light standard GT2 on which it’s based. Almost certain to be included in the RS package will be a fully-adjustable suspension package, roll cage and even some active aerodynamics.

While nothing has been confirmed, stats such as a 3.2 second 0-60 mph time and even a 7m 22s Nurburgring lap time have already surfaced. A limited production run of just 300 cars is also expected to implemented.

In addition to the new GT2 RS, a regular GT2 will also be launched. This model, which you can read about in more detail here, is expected to feature slightly revised styling and a milder 550 horsepower output. Both cars should go on sale in the U.S. around the end of the year.
