Need help regarding warranty being VOIDED

I just found out that my car has been blacklisted by Subaru Canada for an exhaust modification. I don't mind that they void a portion of my car related to my direct modifications, however the fact they voided the whole car is insane. IE: I am having a rattling in the trunk and dealer wants to charge me for this now because he said I am blacklisted.

I know that in the US there is SEMA that lobbies the government regarding protecting people from modifying their car and they list lots of case law, rules, etc showing that the dealer is not allowed voiding all pieces of the car.

On another note, the dealer who did this to me is Subaru on the South Shore. So for anyone who has any modifications (ie: even intake and exhaust), watch out.

If anyone has CONCRETE EXAMPLES and SOLID INFORMATION I would appreciate it very much.

Thanks,

Robert

can I ask you how you found out that you got black listed? Do those mangy asstards just blacklist without saying anything and then you find out like 2 years later? That's freaking insane, and for exhaust modifications. Anyway, I'd call or email SEMA for advice. I think they have "presence" in Canada.

Oh! and read your warranty. Nowhere does it state on mine that an exhaust will compromise warranty on the whole car.

well, last time i spoke the infiniti dealer, he said that any modifications to a component of the car (ie exhaust system) would void the components and the pieces affected by it.
NOT the whole car.

You got to be kidding me??

Way to go Suburu! Another reason why I will never buy a Subaru.

This is ridiculous. I can understand the desire of an owner to modify its car (especially a model for enthousiast such as a Subaru STI) and I can also understand a manufacturer point of view of giving waranty on what you have control over ; it's in the equilibrium that you will find the right way of doing business. This is clearly not the case here.

I honestly don't know what to recommend you but it pisses me off big time... Keep us posted and fight fist in the air.

I had the rattling and the dealer diagnosed it as a shock problem and he said it will cost X dollars and I said why the hell do I have to pay and he mentioned "Didn't you know your car is blacklisted".

My dealer that I bought the car from is ok, they aren't the ones who reported me and they understand my side however it's up to the district manager now. I have left a message this morning and we'll see how he responds. Normally these people are quite aggressive and I will have to take this up to the next level, ask for them to put this in writing and then start legal proceedings where they will have to prove that an exhaust modification can cause an issue with a seatbelt malfunctioning, a radio not working etc. I have no problem taking responsibility for the parts I modified myself.

FYI My warranty says ANY modification or ROAD RACING will void the warranty. What's funny is that they give out SCCA memberships with STIs in the USA, how retarded is that. I know that I will "win" in the end, it's just the process will be long and I would rather arm myself with the facts rather than arguing my way to the end.

first of all, the warranty might be different than in the us, so that scca membership card thing in the us doesnt relate here

second: the service at subaru rive sud has become real bad in the past year or so, bad reps. never on time, so im not surprised to hear such thing coming from them

but in the end, you shouldnt be penalised for a problem that is not related to your mod

The warranty part is tricky. When my sister bought her RX8 she was told at Delisle Mazda that any modification would void the warranty ( she had in mind a miserable K&N filter). Another said only the engine. Finally at gareau they said only if the filter was involved in some way but they feared it would cause "high flow filters are common cause of fire".....lol

Sounds like Subaru is trying to f*ck you up in the butt with no lub. Fight it !

Oh, yeah right.

Like Audi would never f*ck people over on warranty because of mods? :dunno:
Dude I have been to the dealer with lowered suspension, CAI and the dealer never said nothing to me, all they said was your ecu better not be chipped , I said no ;)
how can they sell these race and rally inspired cars and not except the owner to make some minor changes like an exhaust

That blows hard, and hardly makes sense... (basicallly, if you modify your wiper blades it will void warranty if your quarter panels start to rust, lol).

I've read my limited warranty slip several times(nissan). It only states that accessories for rally or competions are not covered, but doesn't state they void warranty.

What I find disgusting is that they don't even warn you.

for changing ur exhaust?
something is wrong here
Subaru is way out of control on this Blacklist bullshti

at least they aren't sending people to the track to narc on drag racing. in the states mitsu is known for sending people to race tracks and to take down vins or license plate numbers of people racing their EVOs then voiding the warranty. freakin' sucks if you ask me.

And what are these fools expecting from someone buying a brand new EVO ? Doing circles around the block at 30mph ? :D

How did I know Subaru Rive Sud had to be part of this. They are ass' when it comes to modifying. I bought a 2.5 RS there and they told me my warranty was void if I put a short shifter.

I went to Subaru St-Hyacinth and the have problems with mods.
