The 2016 Euro Honda Civic Type R

The European Honda Civic Type R has finally debuted in Geneva but unfortunately will not be coming to North America.

This is the first turbocharged Type R model from Honda and it features at 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder VTEC engine making 306 horsepower at 6500 RPM and 295 lb-ft of torque. The redline is only 7000 RPM, which is down considerably from previous Type R models but enthusiasts are probably more than happy to trade the high revving, torqueless motors of the past for this one.

The car goes 0-100 km/hour in 5.7 seconds and has a top speed of 168 MPH or 277 KPH.

New on the tech front are adjustable dampers with four modes. They are managed by buttons on the console. The “R” mode will give you the firmest setting with tightened steering and sharpened throttle response as well.

Behind the 19” wheels you’ll find Brembo brakes and what Honda calls a Dual Axis Strut Front Suspension that minimizes torque steer.

The interior gets the standard Type R treatment with red sticking on the steering wheel, faux suede sport seats and polished shift knob.

What some may find questionable is the look. Forum members have been calling this a car for kids due to the aggressive aerodynamics. The massive rear wing is definitely imposing and it looks as if Honda is trying to up the game little with this styling language.

At any rate, we won’t have to decide if we like it or not because as was mentioned, we are not getting it! What could be possible is the motor being used in another Civic trim or possibly and Acura model next year.
