The 2015 Formula Drift Canada series kicked off last weekend at Autodrome St-Eustache, located just north of Montreal. It’s the first of three rounds for the 2015 season but there is also the Formula Drift World Round scheduled to take place Labour Day weekend which promises to be even bigger than last year’s record breaking event.

Unfortunately, weather forecasters had been predicting heavy rain and thunderstorms for the entire week leading up to the event. They couldn’t have been more wrong as the competition unfolded with dry conditions and under fair skies. The shoddy forecast kept many spectators, vendors and show & shine participants at home.  Despite all of this, a few thousand fans still made it out to fill the grand stands and were treated to some great drifting.

There were several incidents involving contact between vehicles however no major crashes. In practice Eric Belanger rear ended Kevin Morin damaging the rear suspension on Morin’s Nissan S15 but fortunately it was able to be repaired. Alex Gosslin hit wall while in a tandem battle with Jeff Laflamme but was unhurt. Alexandre Blanchette sideswiped Francis Doyon’s vehicle causing his car to become airborne briefly before spinning out. He was able to continue without any issue.

The top 16 got under way around 4pm and the finale came down to Pat Cyr vs Françis Tassé with Pat Cyr pulling off the victory. Jeff Laflamme came in third place.

The next event will be held at Montmagny Speedway outside of Quebec city July 18 and 19th. See you there!
