My buddy may be picking up an 1997 Audi 1.8t with 60k. I was wondering if anyone can give me some advice concerning what to be on the lookout for on the car, and any possible/frequent problems that may arise with the car.

Be sure that all of the front suspension arms have been replaced. The OEM parts seems to be weak and worn rapidly. This is a common problem on the Audi A4/Passat B5. There are 4 of them on each side so it can be really expensive to have them replaced.

re: advice

drive the car around, usual things you would check when buying a car, engine noises, etc, drive the car and feel the boost from the turbo, usually kicks in at 2500rpm, make sure it is not surgy or irregular, might have a failed bypass valve... the best when buying a vw is to have a friend with a vag-tool on a laptop and have him hook it up to the diag port...

Re: re: advice

If you can swing by the shop, we have a VAG diagnostic program at RMR. Give us a call before you come and we can see if there are any fault codes for ya!
