alright this is becoming really annoying now.....i was driving along the highway today with the windows down and had my music blasting, then all of a sudden the subs stops...it's starting to piss me off because this has happened before about a month ago, then it stoped so i figured it was the cd i made...now its back again, and this is a brand new cd bought frmo the store, bascially what happens is the subs ( i have two JL subs) they just stop during the music but the other speakers are still working...i close the music, then maybe after 5 mins, they would work again...WHY IS THIS HAPPENING??????? did i blow something? it's getting too hot?

any help is appricated.
THANKS

My guess would be your amp is getting too hot. It used to happen with my 2 JL's also. I moved the amp to a different location and it stopped happening

ya shade would be good. What colour is your amp? mine was black, and when it was in the sunlight it got really hot.

they are chrome color.....and they are joined in series....

so it's clipping? how can i avoid this then?

I am not a specialist or any thing about music ! But I am pretty sure that it's probably your amp ! That,s happens to a lot of people ! and the temperature of the last days are soo high !

it's very simple, your amps are overheating. Could be for many reasons. If you have both subs running bridged mono (at 2 ohms), your amp will over heat. If you have it stereo, it shouldn't happen... as to help it, you can do many things. One thing that will help is bringing you're gain down (the like the volume for you amp). If you don't want to do that, getting some better wiring will help and a capacitor will make a huge improvement, as well as giving you more bass...

hope this helps

i know its not the wiring, but i think i'll get a capacitor to prevent this from happening, ive had the same subs for 2 years now, i'll check the ground, maybe it got loose though...

If the car wasnt in motion, which means basically no vibration, I'd doubt it would be the ground... but if it was moving...then theres a good chance...

maybe i should cover it up with something??

if your amp(s) are overheating, this might not help cuz amps need ventalation unless you have a digital or liquid cooled amp. (yes it does exist)

but it could also be something simple like your pos+ and neg- speaker wire touching. Most amps have a protection and will turn off automatically.
this happened to me, i hit the brakes hard..and my subs came back:bigup: ..fixed it after

:dunno:

that's a pretty constant speed..unless your on a bumpy road..could be anything from the fuse box to the ground cable, or even RCA signal:dunno:

What would be the best, even though it's kind of hard, is when this happens, try to see if the amp is on (usually the led will tell). If it's still on, then you know it's your signal (RCA cable). But if it's off, there are only a couple of possibilities:

-ground loose
-power loose, or touching the ground
-Speaker wires touching
-remote wire loose
-Overheating.

Personnally I would try to install a small fan to cool off the amp since overheating is the most probable cause.

holy crap of all the replies I saw, this is the best one.

I love it when people who do not know much about the topic try and reply! I get amused by the answers.

The reason I chose this answer was because it's the most general that covers all the basis'. If you notice not once did he mention what kind of amp, nor what kind of load they were under. Nor did he mention where they were mounted, or IF he had already had any fans to aid the cooling. It could also be his subs though, which overtime/abuse the voice coils may tend to unravel thus creating less of a load for the amp. tghis will result in the amp shorting out (either going into it's own protection mode and cutting off the current, or blowing a fuse). But as it sems it's only running into a protection mode there are many different scenarios that could arise. The 2 main ones as have been mentioned, are loose ground and/or overheating. There are however many others!

all i gotta say is.....99AltimaGXE.......you are very observant...

it does matter what kind of amp and subs i have...but remember ive had this sound sytem for 2 years now and there was NEVER ONCE a problem till last month probably....and its comming back now
