Has anyone ever owned (or driven) an older M5? Not the old old one, just the one before the one we have now (sorry, don't know the chassis code).

What were your impression? What's the reputation of these car? are they reliable?

Yes it was the E34..

I got to take one like the pic above for a short ride.. Wouldnt be able to compare between generations, but I can compare with a 1997 M3 that I drove a few times..

The M5 seemed a tad slower on the acceleration from a stop. But at high speeds it pulled harder.

For a car of that size, the handling was awesome, almost equal to the M3, thats quiet impressive.

And what I liked the most about that M5, is that you feel like you're driving a luxury car. Which isnt the case in the M3, even though the workmanship is exceptional.

All of what I said may be wrong, but these my opinions on these cars.

If I was to buy a new M series, it would definately be a 5.
If I was to buy a new M series, the 5 would be my pick.

Sounds good :)

Probably with some work you could make it as fast as an M3...;)

What about reliability? Any specific problems you know of?

for sure, it can easily be made to eat up an M3..

I cant give you much info on that car, caus I'm not a Euro car guy..

In my friend's case his only complaint was that the oem shocks didnt last as long as he thought they would.. Well they were ok, but didnt perform as well.. So he abiously redid the entire suspension.

Sorry, dunno about the rest.

Do you have an idea what kind of mods he has on the m5? Is it NA?

And where is MCC? Everybody's talking about MCC but I have no clue where it is?

Right next to CEGEP Gerarld Godain

Directions:

-West island-
Highway 40
St-Charles north (towards pierrefonds boul.)
Turn right on Gouin
Once on Gouin
Keep going till you see a garage(mcc) on your left and a very small dealership on your right. On the opposite side of the dealership there's a police station.
I know they've got some nice rides at mcc but I also know another BMW specialist.

That other guy (Alex) from RPM Garage located in Beaconsfield has got a special touch for BMWs. If I had a choice, I'll give him a try!

Directions:

-west island-
Highway 20 west
Exit woodland (towards The Lake)
Keep going till you hit Beaconsfield boul.
Turn Right on Beaconsfield boul.
Keep going till you find a garage (RPM garage) with some Beamers parked outside
Watch out cause there's another garage with a gas station colored BLUE (WRONG ONE)
GO to the garage with no gas station and the building colour is beige or brown, again it's called (RPM)

After fixing some major engine problems with my BMW at RPM I took it to BMW Jalbert for a Full Inspection + compression check, I was asked to speak to a mechanic when I went to pick the car up, I thought the car had some major problems, but it turned out that the mechanic couldn't believe how clean the car runs so he wanted to buy it from me and that's after some part of the engine hit the hood and made a big dent.

I'm not advertising for any of them or neither am I related to any. I'm just a big beamer boy. You make the choice!

2wice Rice.

There's a nice one for sale on hebdo.net ! Black with 17" mags, really nice ! I think he's asking 33K $

Karim just view the movie RONIN and you'll know how it drives, because it's really representative ! (I've seen that movie too many times)

Hi,

I'm new to this board. I have owned my E28 M5 for 2 and half years now.

The E34 M5 is much more heavier then the E28 model. But in 94 or 95, they came out with the 3.6L, 6 speed, 340HP, and that my friends is a bomb!!!!

My M5 can outperform an E36 M3 on the highway anyday because it is lighter, but off a start, it's quit similar. After 3rd gear, unfortunetaly, it's bye bye M3. But any ///M is pure respect for me, unless the owner just won't even acknowledge my presence, so that means time to open the can of Whoop A$$! ;) Happens a few times on the 10 with the same guy!

Anyway, if you have a chance to get one, go for it! I am pretty sure all M5s are hand built, I know the E28 was hand built. If you want any other info go to www.bmwm5.com they got their shit straight!

Cheers
Jan V.

PS. And if you can't find one, build one! ;)

EDIT: Sorry to burst your bubble but that is not a real M5 in Ronin :(

Jaydee,

The guages in the BMW are white and in the M5 they're red. And there is no ///M on the cluster.

This has been discussed so much and in fact they did not use a real M5. I guess they were really nice people who made the movie and figured it would be a waste to ruin such a magnificient BMW such as the M5, so they put their $$$$ on the Audi! hehehe :D

Cheers

Hey Jaydee,

I think they could make a Lada go fast in a movie! ;) Anything can be done in the movies.

They even blew up the White House in "Idependence Day".

Cheers
