My GT-X is now in my garage and the fun begins.

Phase 1 of project fiery death. = better front brakes.
Phase 2 Track down a BPT a bigger intercooler, Escort/protoge GT tranny. MX-3 ring gear. Yup turning a GTX into a FWD car.
Phase 3. fresh coat of paint.
Phase 4 buy big bottle of Advil, then add all of phase 2 into the car.
Phase 5 Exhaust and I/C plumbing.
Phase 6 Grease inspection and get car refistered and plated in canada.
Phase 7 Weeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!

Should hopefully have her out by early April if all things go well.

nice project, but why are you turning your GTX into a FWD ?
btw, while you hunt for a BPT, if u spot a B6T, PM me...

and what year is your 323, and were did you buy it ? mine from from Ontario, so I have to get it inspected too. I was thinking about a BPT swap, but apparently its a pain to do in my model (i always mix em up, its BF of BG i think, but i forgot which one is which, I have the old one, square) since one of the engine supports wont fit (passenger side) and the tranny from the BPT wont fit, so i have to either keep mine (B6) or get a GTX tranny (B6T) and even then...its ganna fit so so... and then again, a GTX tranny is for AWD...

anyhow, good luck with your project and post pics

You have a BF like mine, Mine's an 87 from Miami originally then brought to montreal 3 years ago and pretty much been parked since. the BPT swap isn't so uber difficult to wedge the engine into the engine bay, it's all the wiring that's the PITA, .. you can also use a Mercury Capri Xr2 tranny or Mazda 323 GT tranny, both FWD. I'm gonna use an escort GT tranny because the BPT bolts smack onto it, It has beefier driveshafts and there's a good LSD for it for about $400 uS, as apposed to the quaiffe for $1200 for the GT trannies.

I'm going FWD for 3 good reasons. less parasitic loss, easier and cheaper swap. and the rear diff is fecked up and expensive as hizzle to replace/fix.

Do you have to modify the rear end for the FWD conversion? Or just simply remove the driveshaft?

Not sure yet, might get a base model rear end from a scrapyard and replace what's needed with new parts to save weight.

With Disc brake I assume? Can you bolt on the GTX rear disc on the base model rear end? Is it solid beam?

Sorry for these posts but I am dumbass when it comes to mazdas, But I am learning. I'm more of a Vtec fanboy :p

rear on the BF (86-89) is independant. I'd grab up the rear end from an SE model which has discs yes... for bolting and whatnot, I'll let you know more as I get there... I have 2 weeks untill I have any income so there's a small delay on things.
