Expiry Date On Ticket?

I heard after 18 month the case would be annuled because of lack of evidence because the case is too old? Is this true? For a traffic or SQ ticket.
 
If I'm not mistaken, you have the right to a speedy trial. How long a delay is acceptible is beyond me. I'm sure chaosExpanding will let you know.
