blueprint

A blueprint is just a drafted sketch of your engine on paper with exact specifications. A fully blueprinted engine would cost too much money for manufacturers to produce. For that reason there are tolerances. Tolerances reduce the durability and power of an engine.

any performance gains from balancing, can you rev higher too?

Balancing and the loosely termed "Blueprinting" are all for addressing reliability issues than addressing any hidden power gains. When I say loosely termed, it's because John Doe mechanics only knows how to "blueprint" your engine to factory recommended specs. Compare that to a specialist (drag, race, custom-spec'er, etc.) who can re-blueprint your engine to different specifications based on customer demand (Supernaut's link).

AAA the infamous blueprinting and balancing question! Well take this into consideration when you get your crank blueprinted and balanced im sure you wouldent want 1 with out the other! What they would do is run your crank and see if any of the lobes would be heavyer than the other or out of balance by the slightest degree! Then they would make a blue print of how it should be if it were perfect and then they balance your crank to the specs of the blue print! You see if one of the lobes on your crank is 1/4 of an oz heavier than the rest it doenst throw your car outa whak but brings down the "flow" in lamens terms! Think of how much 1/4 of an oz is at 8000 rpm's (ever hold a bottle and spin around reall fast? all the liquid goe to the end away from the spining becasue of kenetic force and thats what happens in your engine) Well when they notice this extra weight they drill a small hole to reduce the weight and once its all perfect reinstall it and make sure everything is in sinc! There is no better crank than one that is blueprinted and balanced!

any recommendation of places to get the job done (blueprint/balance)?

Zeke mentioned that they do pretty much anything thrown at them (I was introduced to him last year). TKM I'm sure will either have the experience or knows a good shop. ADTuning doesn't have the equipment, but sends them off to a shop.

HTH :)
