All I hear about is Skyline this, and RX-7 that, Supra here, Type R there... What about the underdog? THE LANCER! Rumours have it that it's coming to America to do battle with the WRX. What do you think of the car and would you pick it over the WRX?

Underdog? I wouldn't say that! And if the EVO goes to the states it will be much more expensive than the WRX and quite a bit faster as well! Approx 300bhp!
 
It's already at 276 HP Turbocharges AWD right? They say that they will detune it and detune the price with it to do proper competition... If they were to keep it the same the price would be around 40k compared to the 35k for a WRX.
 
acutally it would be a hard choice , there was this exact debate on top gear LANCER EVO 7 vs SUBARU IMPREZA WRX , the guy thats hosts it prefered the wrx , he said the specs arent to much of a difference but the major difference is that you feel more comfortable in the wrx especially looking out to see that air vent thingy !
ahaha .... for me it would be a hard choice , i would go with the lancer prolly cause almost no one has it in montreal !

by the way i think the lancer is more expensive ! especially if you're trying to get it in MONTREAL , the mitsuibshi dealer isnt here yet ...... soon ..... soon .... !
 
Well, when they brought the WRX over here japan, they hosed it down quite abit, 224 bhp...i think they'll do the same to the Evo's...it wont have that huge 276 bhp engine, i doubt it.
 
ok the wrx that was tested on top gear was the STI. same for the one in japan they didnt detune it here they just didnt bring the sti version here. we have the wrx at least now. as for the lancer if the 8 really does come to canada it would be intrusting seeing how america couldnt get the lancer evolution through all they got was some ****ty rally version of the lancer.
 
The WRX in japan has 250HP!
In Australia and Europe it only has 215HP.

youve probably heard this but we have some in ontario. but taxes and insurance are a bitch. i think mitsubishi has been "talking about coming back though.
 
ya i know but evry time they say there coming to mtl they never end up coming dont y but if kia and izuzu can have a dealer ship and not close down y not mitsubishi.
 
They've been saying that for the past 10 years.

The reason I'd get an Evo over a Sub WRX is that they must be built 10 times better (at least their trannies and drivetrain).

Our Talons (even the 2G's) have the old Galant VR-4 drivetrains and trannies. The worse of the bunch (well, old technology). They abandoned the Galant platform for the Lancer platform after that (lighter).

I had an inside look at the Evo 5 tranny at Camo and it looks MUCH sturdier than a Talon tranny. Since the engine is the other way around, no need for a stupid T-case either. Really, the Talon internals look primitive compared to the newer Evos (even if they have the same origin, one of them evolved, the other didn't).

That said, our crap Talons trannies and drivetrains seem to be so much tougher than the current WRX. I've been beating mine at the drag strip and this stupid thing manage to stay together and never breaks! Imagine for the much improved Evo, there is IMHO NO comparison between the 2.

I have seen about 5 drag passes done by WRX, 2 of them resulted in busted trannies. In rallye, in the P4 class, they swap the whole trannies every couple of stages as a "Preventive" mesure.

JS with his Evo 5 did the whole season on the same tranny. He did break a gear *once*.

I'm sorry to bash the WRX, but as much as I enjoyed driving it, those truly AWFUL trannies will keep me away from them.

Now, if they could bring that Evo!!!!!!!!
