check engine light

hey guys, is it normal that your engine has less power when the check engine light comes on ? cuz right now my check engine light comes on and my mecanic told me it's the knock sensor. anyways, after like 15 minutes of driving, the check engine light comes on and the car does'nt pull like it does before it . is it normal ?

Normal, because your ECU is put in a `limp home' mode which alters your timing. This is to prevent further damage to your engine. Some cars have error codes that the ECU puts out so you can determine exactly what is faulty.
