I never noticed how crappy my headlights were until I detailed a 2003 Audi A4 with new Ecodes headlights.
I had a little time to take care of my ride finally and decided to did the headlights. Audi Headlights are very hard, so I had to use a 400 grit paper.
Here's what I used:
- 400 grit
- 800 grit
- 1500 grit
- 2000 grit
- ScratchX
- Optimum compound
- Rotary polisher
- orange pad
Took about 2.5 hrs to complete. For those who did this by hand I take my hat off. Even with the rotary it took me a few passes to remove the scratches
So here's the before pics:
Headlights are fine, since I polish them once a year.. but I really wanted to remove all the rock chips. I put a masking tape so the camera focus on the plastic instead of the reflection inside the headlights so no cheating. WYSIWYG
During:
400 grit
1500 grit
2000 grit
After:
And now for the final test. This is where marketing will fail to show the real results. Ask anyone to turn on their lights, and this will show all defects and remaining scratches. You'll notice there's still some fine scratches remaining on mine.. but I was running out of time. I've done a few VW headlights and they are so much easier than the Audis.
So this is a service offered for those who take any exterior detail (regular or intensive polish)
If you have any questions please post on this thread. If you want an appointment send me a pm along with your car info and job required.
Thanks all.
