1999 Honda Accord Problem

Hey guys,

this car has 2 keys because the ignition cylinder was changed, so 1 key to open the door, the second key to start the car.

Thing is the car can only be started using the remote starter. Once the car starts, then we insert the key in the ignition cylinder and turn it, then we're off.

The problem now arises when the battery died. So i tested it and it was only 11.3V which is really low.

So I got a new battery today. Pushed the remote starter button however the starter doesn't even try to crank the car.

Usually we could only start the car by first pressing on the remote starter but I tried turning the key in the ignition cylinder and the car is turning over fine, just doesn't actually start up, so the starter and battery are fine.

The issue seems to be with the remote starter, because pressing the button doesn't lead to any cranking/turning over.

Is it possible that the remote starter needs to be reset somehow?

What should I start by looking at/for?

Thanks

On my Jeep I have a remote starter and I changed the battery maybe 3-4 times over 6-7 years and never had a problem, except for once. After installing a new battery, the remote starter didn't work, had it checked out and the module had fried itself. They installed a refurb module for like 100$ with labor.

Remove / disconnect the remote car starter and ur problems will be solved

Seriously! I see it 2-3 times a week issues with remote starters after a few years. Just remove it...

Also why didn't you/previous owner have the cylinder made to use the old key?

^I don't know Gregster.

That's why, I can't just remove the remote starter and it'll work. The new key hasn't been programmed. So I think my options are to get the remote starter reset or to get the new key reprogrammed, right?

Any idea on how to reprogram the remote starter? I tried turning it to on and off (ingition) a few times and then press the starter button, but no luck.

Why do you keep talking about programming keys? There's no chip in the key in a 99 Accord

^I'm pretty sure I heard that they all do from 98+

Also, why wouldn't the car start then. It turns over fine with the key but doesn't actually start. and this all started after the battery died which makes be think it's beacuse the remote starter got reset and would need to be reprogrammed.

We were never able to start the car with the key, only with the remote starter, because the second key was never programmed....

this is what the key looks like. http://www.amazon.com/Ignition-Transponder-Key-Blank-Chip-T5/dp/B006FSUFX8

If the green key on your cluster is flashing when the ignition is on then yes you need to program the key.

Go underneath the dash fine the big black box remove the fuses that are connected to it. The are probably hanging on wires. Get in turn the key and thank me later.

I think he means that if there's a chip, then there should be a key buried under the dash somewhere in a black box.

Actually I was meaning to remove the fuses from the automatic starter. Have you tried to leave the key to on for about 10 minutes until the grenn light stops flashing? I remember I went to go tow a Honda Accord and the green key was flashing on the dash. I left the key to on and a couple minutes later the key programmed itself.
