News: 2012 Volkswagen Passat Debuts for North America

don't like the style...

seriously sad to see the 2.0T go... that was a fantastic engine. Powerful and great gas mileage. The 2.5 will fail in that big Passat.

I like what VW is doing, as long as their cars are able to keep up with the quality they had before. They went back to their roots, back in the days VW were the least expensive cars. I just hope they keep the fun-factor.

The new jetta is so cheap that it can be had for the same price as an Accent lol, now the passat is also a lot cheaper.

So you think they didn't cut corners to be able to sell their cars that cheap? lol Think again. The new Jetta and Passat will be the but of many jokes in the next few years.

I'm sure they had to remove a lot of base equipment, but I doubt they had to cut too many corners. The MK5 generations were very expensive to build. VW then prioritized on finding ways to manufacture cars less expensively: They changed design on a lot of parts in order to be able to build them faster, that's the biggest cost-saver.

Of course they did. The Euro Passat is no longer sold in N.A., they have created a specific version for N.A. with a $20K USD starting price. They must have cut corners...This goes to show you how much less the Americans can afford in $$$...

ouash.
b7 all the way.

You guys need to understand the reason why they chose to have the 5 cycinder. You have to look at the demographic who will buy the car and see what they want to buy or appeal to them. The 2.0t is a way better engine; even my mother know that but on paper for many unpassionate people (not car enthusiasts) a 5 cycinder will always be better then a 4 cyclinder turbo...even if its the evo x engine with 300hp 300ft on paper its a little 2.0t engine and that what they see.

I'm not talking about the Engine ... But the overall look of the car ...

I don't know about that. While in marketing terms usually bigger/more=better, when buying a car, even the most senile buyer goes out there to get opinions from family or whatever, and get some idea of what they're looking for. I strongly disbelieve that VDub got rid of that engine choice strictly for marketing purposes; do you know how much it costs to develop a new block, new tooling and manufacturing processes to move on from a proven steady system?

I'd be curious to get a take from someone within the industry as to this move away from the 2.0T

VW is sucking so hard, everything I liked about the brand is gone, it's starting to have the Toyota feel now with the new Jetta and Passat...

Belle GM....:D lol....Serieux la ont dirait une jetta ralongé , c'est ridicule lol...Vivement la Passat Euro, la ont va avoir une merde de VW vendu en chine....et rebadger passat pour l'amerique du nord...*td*

b7 all the way.

b6 btw. b7 is the one your seeing here.

b6 is the model from 2k6 to 2k10.

i'll stick to my b6 instead of upgrading... well if we can call it like that, to a b7.

the only thing i would like to have from this car, is the diesel engine!
