I dunno for the 2011, but they don't have much more room (just slightly more), and aren't more comfy either (and they passed from fully independent suspension to torsion beam I think).
And I drove a 96 or so corolla (A/T) once and it was a bit noisy, but not that bad, and it was probably the tranny or the muffler, because I actually found a tercel (M/T) of the same year quieter, and also quieter than let say a 2010 Honda Fit. And fit and finish is fine on the new corolla, but not better than before, and plastics not only are hard but looks and feel cheap, compared to the ones in the older models (especially the pre 1998 ones). But yes, corolla are still a good value for money (cheaper than before to buy, and still fuel efficient and cheap to maintain). Only, I'd take a civic over it, since it's cheaper than before too, and even if the plastics are harder than before, fit and finish is better than ever.
Only thing that was BS with the corolla was the cheap cloth trim in the base grade models (VE) before, you had to grab the CE version to get the nice pseudo velour interior. And on ALL small Toyota (corolla or smaller, any year) the front seats don't go enough rearward for tall people. German cars are the best for seats adjustments and front legroom (even if I was disapointed by some low end VW I tried in Ecuador). All corollas in Ecuador have 4 wheel disc brakes too, I guess it's sold as a premium car there.
