Unfortunately I got pulled over by the SQ merging on the 25 cause he said my car was loud, got a 48h....

So how does it work, he told me I have to get it inspected, then fix it, then get it inspected again....or can I just "fix it" and get it inspected....I basically need mufflers....

What happens after the 48h....cause let's be honest I gotta order the parts and then have them installed....

In Québec, a SAAQ (Société de l'assurance automobile du Québec) 48-hour inspection is a requirement for vehicles with minor defects detected during a mechanical inspection. If a minor defect is found, the vehicle owner has 48 hours to have the necessary repairs made and obtain an inspection sticker. If the vehicle is not repaired within that timeframe, it cannot be put back into operation

Alright so I can just get my mufflers installed and inspected after or just forget the inspection...??
bis it like a tint ticket that eventually goes away or my car is flagged....

I've gotten an inspection ticket in the past. I just never went.

Got a $500 ticket in the mail...

Yup and to be honest he didn't even look under the car or anything, on the ticket it's just written "VR tres bruillant".....

But I looked at article, and it's basically anything that seems modified...

And

1° un véhicule routier destiné à circuler sur un chemin public qui a subi des modifications susceptibles d’affecter sa conformité aux dispositions de la Loi sur la sécurité automobile (L.C. 1993, c. 16);
2° un véhicule routier destiné à circuler sur un chemin public ayant subi des modifications susceptibles de diminuer la stabilité ou le freinage du véhicule, dont notamment au châssis, à la carrosserie, à un système ou à un mécanisme, ou ayant été converti en un autre type de véhicule;

Those laws are always unclear. I'm not a lawyer but 521 refers to :

-214(1) that again refers to la LOI SUR LA SÉCURITÉ AUTOMOBILE which is a federal law. Under that law, regulations has noise levels in DB for mufflers.

- 214(2) stipulates it needs to affect braking or stability.

So again not sure this could be issued.

Are you missing parts of the exhaust like mufflers, resonators or cats?
If not, I'd try the inspection. I don't think they will check the sound level, but rather if anything is missing in your exhaust system.

Otherwise, expect a 500$ ticket by mail.

Exactly very unclear!

Well he did not use a DB meter or look under the car, I didn't say a word, didn't admit or deny anything...

But my car has no mufflers. I know for a fact that it won't pass an inspection just cause of that...

I knew that eventually I would need to put mufflers but it makes 6 years I'm driving the car like that and never had problems. A also don't mind putting mufflers on it either, I just don't wanna pay 100$ for an inspection for them to fail me, have to put the mufflers on and pay again for another inspection. So I figured I'd order mufflers, get em installed then get the car inspected...but it's gonna take more then 48h....I also don't wanna get a 500$ tickets after I do all that....

The worst part is that the SQ officer that stoped me was on a bike. I'm ready to bet anything that he has a straight piped Harley at home!

just get some valved mufflers. They are cheap, quite good, and straight when open.
When close, for my car, it's quieter than the OEM BMW legal sport exhaust

pneumatic one, not the electric.

only the fact I can close it when a cops is near me , or when I go in my neighbourhood, worth the money and time.
Integrated the on/off button on my dummy OEM button in my console. Clean.

However, can't tell if this will pass the inspection, if it's a DB test, I assume yes.

^^^ I found this on the SAAQ website, there's a like to everything they supposedly check...

My car is super clean, even for 21 years old....but what are the chances they don't find anything or don't go looking for something...

Anyone have a reference for a place their not dicks...??

@oVeRdOsE, nahh I'd like to but don't want the hassle. I'll just get a decent muffler....I've got a couple of choices....Flowmaster Flow FX, Dynomax Ultra flow...want a nice deep rumble, nothing raspy....I like magnaflow but wayyyyyy too quiet and same with borla! If anyone has suggestions for a Ford 4.6 let me know hahahaha

understand, but at the end cops are aggressive on exhaust because of complains , and complains are not on the highway but in residential area...

I'm seriously think about putting valved muffler on my other car, since it has a straight exhaust. Not super loud, but on a cold start it surely annoy my neighbors. having a good resonator, then the valved muffler can maybe get the sound you like. Those are going for 250$ cad, worth the try.

So de ce thread, j'en retiens ;

I guess not, y vont te renvoyer un autre ticket jusqu'à temps que tu y aille?

^^^ exactly.

I actually spoke to Tony Transfers, and if you guys wanna know how it works PM me.

But from what they told me is that sometimes u receive the 500$ ticket, sometimes u don't....u could win of u contest, sometimes u cant....esti de loi Batard! but the girl on the phone found it quite funny, cause it's impossible to actually get an inspection done within 48h...and once u do the inspection and fail ur fucked, cause then the car is illegal on the road! And u have 48h to fix it and re-inspect it...

As for the valved muffler...spending 500$+ I really don't wanna. So I just picked up some decent sounding and not too aggressive mufflers. It sucks, car won't sound the same but wtv, pas la fin du monde.
