I was very recently in Germany (trip report is coming soon) and toured the museums of Porsche, Mercedes-Benz and BMW sorry no VW.. This will be part 1 of a 3 part series.
The Porsche Museum is located at "PorschePlatz" basically you have the museum, Porsche factory and Porsche Zentrum dealership. Cost of entry is 8euro and parking is 4euro. Traveling time from Munich is about 2 hours as there is some major construction on Autobahn 8.
This is the exterior that you are greeted with
Porsche Zentrum, factory and me posing because pics or didn't happen right?
Once you enter the parking garage you are bound to find good stuff...
Take the aufzug upstairs to the lobby, don't forget to bring your parking stub with you because parking needs to be paid for at the front desk.. Don't pull a Gregster and leave it in the car.. I asked for a map in German because why not?
Once you purchase a ticket head upstairs on the escalator to the gallery. This is looking down towards the restoration center which can be viewed while eating some food or drinking a beer.
Once you get off the escalator... this is what greets you...
Do you remember the scene from "Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory" when Wonka opened the doors to the candy room and the kids jaws hit the ground? Well when I saw those cars it was the same reaction. Car's I once read about in a book or article were before me. To be honest though I was more shocked to find how open everything was, my friend and I commented that if this were in Montreal some ti counes would be trying to steal something off the cars. In Germany though there is a very high level of respect and order.. Besides you may end up in ze cooler for 20 days
After I picked my jaw off the ground and cleaned up my drool it was time to wander around.

I'll admit it.. When I was looking at the cars I did see most of them in a dissembled form on a parts fiche or service manual
As I mentioned before I was impressed with how open everything was, they were scared showing off some valuable items.. If you are anywhere near this place it's a must see. The gift shop has a bunch of cool stuff including die-casts of pretty much every Porsche made, they also give away free posters in a big pile just outside.
Next up BMW Museum and BMW Welt.
