hey guys,
has anyone had any experience with carbon fiber drive shafts? they sound good but are there worthwhile advantages to the cost? here is a bit of info from pstds.com

Lighter than steel or aluminum.
Three times torsional strength of steel.
Torsional spring rate allows better tire hook-up.
Torsional spring rate allows smoother shifting.
Less shock load to the differential.
Eliminates or dampens high speed vibrations.
Reduces transmission and differential breakage.
Characteristics can be varied by changing the wind, angles or diameter. PST offers both steel and 7075 Billet Aluminum yokes.
In drag racing applications - a better 60 Ft. time.
ET's have been lowered in some cases by as much as .120.
In stock car racing better control out of corners is the result of the torsional spring rate.
In road racing smoother shifting and better durability of transmission and differential have been reported.
Tested on Cobra's at 180 MPH on Dyno with no vibrations.
A much greater safety factor - carbon fiber will return to a fiber and not create shrapnel under the car, as would aluminum or steel shafts.

your thoughts?

moi jai un en alu pis ca fait la job si tu songe au 11-12 sec sur le 1/4 tu peux considairé le fibre de carbone

the best place in mtl for drive shafts is monsieur drive-shaft 2515 leger lasalle 514-363-1821. i had mine done there but i'm not sure if they do carbon fibre ones.

J'vais t'avouer franchement, je me tient gros avec des canons du drag ( 7-8-900 whp) dans le muscle car et le drive shaft en carbon n'est pas la priorité

QUelqu'un a un prix pour sa??

all the places around here only balance to 2500rpm... not high enough for a performance application.

si t'as besoin d'un driveshaft solide et bien balancé, prends le de la: http://www.dennysdriveshaft.com/

thanks for all the info

there are a number of different places but the one I took my info from was www.pstds.com. Carbon fiber driveshafts from them range between $500-1000. They also have steel, aluminum and chromoly.

What happens if your driveshaft is only balanced to 2500rpm yet your car revs to lets say 8000 or 9000. Does that mean that you will experience (severe?) vibrations when revving that high??

It's me or a normally drive shaft dont turn at the same speed that the engine??

I know that new Cadillac CTS have special transmition with a very low rpm drive shaft to reduce vibration and noise in the car.

:dunno:

en 3e gear (1:1) le DS tourne a la meme vitesse....

si t'as un OD de 0.70 (comme la 700r4/4l60) bin tu divise les rpm par 0.70.

5000rpm en 4e = ton DS est a 7140 rpm
