News: Cops investigating sprint-car incident reportedly involving Nascar Champ Tony Stewart

Tony Stewart will not face criminal charges in Kevin Ward Jr.'s death, a grand jury in upstate New York decided.

The Ontario County District Attorney's office took the evidence in Stewart's case to a grand jury, which found there was no basis for criminal charges, D.A. Michael Tantillo announced Wednesday.

Tantillo said toxicology reports revealed that Ward was under the influence of marijuana at a high enough level to impair judgment.

Tantillo said there were two charges submitted for consideration by the grand jury against Stewart: manslaughter in the second degree and criminally negligent homicide. He said neither received the necessary 12 votes from the grand jury to charge Stewart. The grand jury heard the evidence and deliberated "over the better part of two days," Tantillo said.

Bon ça y'est le kid était gelé pendant la course.

Cue the army of Tony Stewart fans blaming the accident on weed.

"In announcing that a grand jury had absolved the NASCAR star of any responsibility in Kevin Ward Jr.'s death, the Ontario County prosecutor also revealed Ward was under the influence of marijuana at the time of the crash. At a level "enough to impair," no less.

In other words, Stewart did absolutely nothing wrong. The burden of blame is squarely on Ward, who had no business climbing into a sprint car when he was high, let alone walking onto a hot track to confront Stewart."

This is journalistic hypocrisy at it's finest. Ward was high, so "in other words" that means Steward did nothing wrong.

I'm not blaming either of them, I just find this article header appalling.

No headline in the US appals me. I'm not buying the marijuana thing... I don't believe they can prove that he was high at the time of the accident, just that he had THC in his system which means nothing. If he smoked 5 fat blunts the day before the race he would probably have as much THC in his system as someone who smoked a little pinner before the race. Plus, getting high before a race makes zero sense.
