Article: Decarie Expressway North New Configuration

Besides the fact that we all know that our government is for the most part useless when dealing with infrastructure along with everything else. Can someone please explain why the heck they wasted our tax money and didn't accomplish anything in terms of traffic flow on the Decarie Expressway northbound, heading to the 40 West.

Their intention was to alleviate traffic in the left lane heading west but it's still only one lane. They added a second lane for the 520 West which takes you back down the ramp where there's a traffic light and then you have to go back up the original ramp, if you do this at rush hour, well good luck it's going to take you 10 minutes to get to the CDL circle. No one is using this 520 lane, why would they when they could just get on to the 40 and get off at the first exit that takes them to the CDL circle and not have to wait on the two ramps. It boggles my mind, nothing has been accomplished in terms of the congestion of that left lane. Ideally they would need two lanes going up to the 40 West but I don't think it would be possible in the current configuration. I wonder who I could contact at the MTQ or my local MNA to complain about this.

And to top it off they increased that double solid line about 8 years ago but they didn't realize that this makes matters worse because you have drivers literally stopping in the middle lane all the way back near Pare to get in the left lane and this just causes more congestion.

Here's what the MTQ wanted to accomplish, they mention the congestion at about the 2:09 min mark.

Just look at what they did in the Anjou area near the Galeries and Future-Shop/Best-Buy whatever. It's a mammoth exchange circle that solved nothing except confusing everyone.

The project is far from complete... Construction is on going. The MTQ doesn't need your help or opinion. They've done more traffic flow analysis and simulations than you (or 99.9% of members on MR for that matter) can comprehend and they do the best with what they can and with what they have.

I can feel the traffic flows more on the 40 O from the 15. Not much...but it's less heavy at rush hours for sure. I haven't seen stopped traffic since the new config.

The only simulation they've done is how much cash they can stuff into socks under a table

I like it!
The new configuration works great for me. No more idiots cutting in from the 117North lane since this lane is now shared with the 40 E lane.

Good idea MTQ...

Ca doit etre le connard qui fait coupé une voie sur la 40 pour les lavaleux qui a fait les plans de décarie.

I don't need a degree in traffic flow to understand that it's deficient. It's exactly the same thing with the 640/15 échangeur! It would have cost a lot less to just finish highway 13 to highway 50.... It would've fixed 80% of the problem, developped the mirabel region. Instead... they will give back or sell back all expropriated land and we will be stuck in that stupid ass built échangeur that has to have you passed thru the Faubourg Boisbriand to get into Boisbriand....

What's wrong with the 640/15 interchange? You want it to be 3 lanes in every exit/direction? Since you seem to know so much about this subject, how would you have developed it to get into boisbriand with current highway being like this?

Based on what cost estimations? How many people taking the 13 need to get to the 50...? Is there really a necessity right now to expropriate all the land to develop a highway going through all that farmland and perpendicular roads? To satisfy who??

I think the only thing that would make you happy seems like a private highway straight from work to your house. You're driving on the road and part of that is having to put up with other drivers and traffic. Even on roads that are 8-lanes in each direction, you'll end up with congestion during some portion of the day. Eventually it will bottleneck somewhere.

It took them 40 years of reconfiguring the 15N/Acadie/rockland exchange until they finally got it right.

be patient guys geeezzz

and they still messed it up. Super confusing area. I can just imagine tourists getting lost there or causing accidents with last minute lane changes.

Government here doesn't understand.. keep it simple. Roads and signs need to be simple, not require F1 reflexes to get around.

Some times I really wonder how smart "smart people" think they really are:

They've used up every inch of land possible in the area. How would YOU have designed it to allow people to drive on acadie AND be able to get onto the 40?seriously. Les gars, arrêtez de parler comme si vous comprenez qqch.

How much more simply can a sign fucking be? You shouldn't be driving if you can't understand what's happening on this road.... retarded-level stupid...

i think theyve finally gotten it right.

putting all the exits on the same side for one is a great idea here lol

Wtv. I read "echangeur" and "acadie" in one sentence for me its echangeur l'acadie. I read 40/15N: echangeur des laurentides. 40/15S: Échangeur decarie.

lol thats hard fucking detail nitpicking if you're trying to argue that echangeur 40|15N and 40|l'acadie are two seperate things
I'm not nitpicking and there's nothing to argue about: they ARE two completely separate and independent interchanges, structures and names...

My observations during rush hours :

I did realise there's a slight less traffic when going toward 40 , in the mornings (toward st laurent, from decarie)

By making the 20 / 15 longer ,toward champlain bridge / southshore, they did improve the flow by making it longer. Its now more advantageous to take champlain bridge than lining up like a dog to mercier in order to get to south shore.

In other words, i did think an improvement has been made so i have to disagree with OP that the government wasted money.

They are simply restructuring montreal due to the increase of populations.
