E-Business / Shipping rates question....

Let's say i run an e-business and i ship items very frequently, mass shipping weekly to many residential addresses... Local (Qc) and across Canada (On, Bc, Ab)
Small/light packages. Let's say 0.25lbs, boxes or bags the size of a common cell phone or a bit bigger...

What is the best shipping option ?
Any "business deals" to be had with shippers like Purolator or such not to pay 20-25$ for a stupid light/small package shipped to Toronto for example... ?

Anybody already in this kind of business or experiences to share ?

Thanks !

Merci !

It may take some time and work, but my eventual goal would be to ship 10 000 items/month. At least. If the plan works as expected.

I still have much work to do to even establish if a profit margin is even possible after everything and everyone is paid... for now if i reach 10 000 sales/month it seems very easy to make quite a reasonable profit in relation to the work load it requires.
I'm still missing shipping rates and "dédouannage des marchandises" fees, because i plan on trading with manufacturers from other countries for my supplies.
Looked over "ASFC" (Agence des Services Frontaliers du Canada) federal govt. website, it doesn't seem to be much of a pain in the ass.

I'm still in the early stages of making this plan.

Am i day dreaming like an idiot to expect shipping rates as low as a buck or two per items shipped ?
Let's say i sell an item for 4$, if the shipping goes to high, there is no interest anymore in buying my shit online when you can get it for the same price (or even cheaper if the shipping rates are ridicoulous) anywhere else.

Anybody's useful input or critics are welcomed.

Thanks !

I ship 20-30 parcels a day and the best rates I got was from Fedex Ground. I pay under 10$ if I ship pretty much everywhere in Canada.

at my old job, we could ship up to 25lbs for $6.95 flat rate in greater montreal area next. GTA was $7.95 next day. Using Nationex. shipped 60-70 boxes typically around 25 lbs

I mean... let's say 30 parcels, each parcel goes to a different destination. but it still is within the 25lbs all together...

prices are per shipment normally. If you ship 3 boxes to the same Customer 1/3, 2/3 and 3/3 you will pay a fee based on the total weight and size of your boxes. The best thing to do is use a few standard size boxes (Uline, etc). It will be easier for the shipping company and you. There is always more room for negociation, I call them every 3 months.

I have 11.50$ shipped next day anywhere in north america with UPS. packages up to 1 pound I belive. But that's my work account, it took a while for us to get that, MTV is your best bet.

Up to 25 lbs per destination ? Or it can be up to 25lbs/day with multiple destinations for each parcel ?

25lbs per box. $6.95 for first box, $1.25 per box afterwards to same address, up to 25 lbs. After 25lbs i think itslike .25c per lbs per box.
