Go in for an alignment..leave with 2 surprises.

So today I went in for an alignment, mainly to fix negative camber in the back.I show up at the garage at around 1:40 and they take my car in right away.I really hate bringing my car to garages but I've dealt with this garage before and was satisfied. I think to my self 1h30 minutes max and I'm out, wrong I end up waiting until they close(5pm).My car is finally ready and the camber cannot be fully adjusted if I wanted to really be within spec I would need rear control arms($$$) but its better than what it was before,I can live with it for now.I pay and leave,I get into my car and reverse and hear this massive grinding noise coming from the rear passenger side, the side that couldn't be fully adjusted.According to the mechanic its my suspension because its aftermarket *blah* and that it should "readjust" and the noise will go away even though my suspension was perfect before,no noise EVER(To me it sounds like a wheel bearing is shot).I manage to drive home and jack up the car and notice nothing out of the norm. And then I see this...

Passenger side door

I'm sure other people have been in this situation before.I will definitely pass by tomorrow about the noise,do I mention the chip?I cant really prove that they did it but it certainly wasn't me.I did have an evaluator pass at around 10 am this morning for damage on the passenger side fender he took pictures of the car not sure if he took any of the door.

feedback would be appreciated. What should I do?

Video of the noise, more of a constant knocking.Skip to 45 seconds, gets pretty bad towards the end.

Ask the evaluator for the pics....otherwise you really have zero proof. Plus your car is very dirty so could it be you just didnt see it before? That dirt job seems like a good camo for that chip...

I will surely be calling the evaluator to see if he has pictures. It was raining this morning so the car looked very clean,I did not notice any chip, its pretty noticeable even with all the dirt I would have seen it right away.

C'est des coilover.Trop tard maintenant,il vont au moins répare le bruit en arrière.

The "helicopter" noise I don't believe it to be the bearing. Tha would b a continuous grinding/humming noise. Check your brake rotors touching the pads/warped or th dust shield, or the tire touching some suspension component. Raise the car and put I in neutral and turn the wheel

That knocking....have you checked to make sure that the wheels is well bolted down? A loose wheel will make that noise.

Ive got an appointment at 1pm to resolve the issue (hopefully) I will update the thread after. The shop is located in Dorval that is all I'm going to say for now.

First thing I did was check the lug nuts, all tight. They say they only removed 2 bolts to adjust the alignment.I should mention that when I turn the noise disappears for 3-5 seconds and then comes back.

Brough my car to this alignment place on Tachereau last month. They also pulled the whole, "your control arms are jammed we can' do it as perfectly as we want" blablabla, get my spec sheet with the result at the end, it's damn near smack in the specs... fuckin assholes.

My control arms aren't jammed, they even bought camber bolts with 2.5 deg adjustment but one side couldn't be adjusted within spec. They were able to get everything within spec except for the side causing me this problem!!

I'd go back and have them at very least fix the wheel/knocking. The chip can't be traced to them, so you'll have to swallow that pill. If they don't accept to fix it, I'd get it done somewhere where they know what they're doing...and then send the bill to the other shop.

When I worked in St Leonard we used Touchette (8997 PIE IX north of the 40) for alignments, always great service and no problems

Having done my fair share of alignments.. People worry too much about getting "Lowered" cars in factory spec.. The "spec" is just there as a guide, the guy doing the alignment should have gone over the different options with you. However most alignment guys are taught to "set it in the green" and anything in "red" is bad as they have no clue about measurements..

I would have went with -1.5 camber up front or at least tried to get it matched with the rear and 0 toe all around. The toe is the real killer if that's all wonky.

Can you post the alignment sheet?

so here is my update,

Went to the garage and explained my situation, they were obviously very understanding.I explained it wasn't the suspension and there was something up with the rear right side.Car gets taken in right away,20 minutes later the mechanic comes to see me and says ''let go for a test drive''. After a 5 minute drive he explains its completely his fault and he admits to it.According to him he had his co-worker tighten the camber bolt while he was prying but never check to see if he actually tightened the bolt properly.+1 on the mechanic for checking over his own work and letting me leave the garage with the car in that state. So in the end I don't need rear control arms and the car drives like a dream now.

As for the chip in the door,I cannot prove the garage is at fault. No choice but to repaint the whole door. *mad*

Here is a picture of the alignment sheet.I filled the numbers in,couldn't really see them.

Before:

After:

Now the rear right is within spec.

@Gregster

Maybe I should have called you for the alignment, seeing as you are located in the west, you might get a new customer.

Thank you to everyone for the comments!

No offense but whoever "aligned" should maybe retake the course. There is almost a .7 degree difference between the left and right camber in the rear, .5 in front and wow that rear toe... RR has a good amount of toe out. Better than what it was but not perfect, RL is slightly toe in and same with FL

I love how the write the numbers by hand on the report sheet!!!

My GF bought a new car this week ... The dealer replace a wheel bearing and obviously had to do a W/A afterward

Shitty usual dealer job ... The steering was off 15 degrees and the spec speak for themself ....

Brought it to work and aligned it myself

Usual " vite fais " alignment ... If its in green its ok

My alignment ... I could of shifted the front subframe to equalize the front camber but ill be changing the front shocks this summer so if it still need to be shifted i will do it then ...
