People are ignorant... with Canadian Golf R you can turn absolutely everything OFF by pressing the ESP button 3 seconds.

In the US, you simply have to copy the ABS module coding from a Canadian Golf R and you'll be able to turn everything off. Like MTV said, simple 2 min coding job with VAG-COM

I'd take a Golf R anytime over a Focus because of AWD, ease of tuning and resale value.

Look at the Focus SVT vs R32 used car prices.

Je comprends ton point mais un focus SVT avait 160 Hp avec un intérieur cheap et un chassis +- de bonne qualité. La R32 était une très bonne voiture, solide, performante.
La focus SVT 2003 est loin devant la ST 2013. Une conception europeenne, un intérieur avec des matériaux de meilleures qualités. J'Ai essayé une focus 2012 et j'avais été vraiment impressionné de l'effet ''solide'' du véhicule. Et l'insonorité était très bien!

Je trouve bizarre de comparer la focus ST à un Golf R. 2 chars complétement différent avec des clientèle différentes et un écart de prix quand même important.IMO, la compétition direct de la ST est la MS3 et la GTI.

J'aime mieux le look de la focus, mais moi aussi je penche pour le awd. Quoique il faut faire attention ici, vw on mis une transmission haldex, selon moi c,est pas le meilleur choix. J'espère au moins que c'est la dernière gen avec la pompe mécanique.

The VW is an amazing overall package, but at 40k, this car's performance is dissapointing. This is VW's top of the line golf, priced and placed to compete with the STi and Evo. Well it can forget about those in the performance department. It cant even match the performance of the Cobalt SS or Mazdaspeed 3 which are (and were) 25% to 50% cheaper..

The way i see it. At this price range you can argue when talking about the evo, sti and Golf R. You can justify the GTi as the luxurious AWD all rounder. Well if thats what you want, you can get an Audi A4, A3, Bmw 328, Mercedes C300, Lexus...etc

That being said i think it will sell well.

Conclusion:

Great car, Dissapointing performance.

As much as I love the STi... it doesn't even come CLOSE to build quality, comfort, class and amenities that the Golf R has to offer.

I would take a Golf R over an STi. From what i can tell they are easy and innexpensive to make decent power. I wouldn't take it over an Evo though.

Of course, sti/evo are performance oriented car and the R give you comfort, ''luxe'', nice interior,etc. At that price range, you can't have performance + comfort + luxe + build quality,etc...
