Ok, i've got a little problem. I want to order axels from Islandia, NY (7.5hrs drive from my house, too far !!). The price is 1100$us, problem is they only ship with UPS !!! I know they will change me astronomoush brokerage fees. (Don't know if they are still on strike).

How can I do the "brokerage" myself ? Exacly how, and what I have to do prior to ordering.

I think the brokerage will be fair (maybe 60$) .. But consider the taxes and HIGH SHIPPING rate to Canada.. *banghead*

tell them to ship it as a GIFT
and still insure it

they cant charge you on a gift

Not true.
U are lucky if they didn't charge u....

Luc will come kill u if he got to pay 200$ for tax even he listen to u to mark as gift. *tu*

I know there are differences in taxes, this is a MADE IN USA product, I heard only TPS applies, am I right ?

Taxes, I expect them, but its the brokerage fees that bugs me, last winter I ordered a copper head gasket, the brokerage cost me more than the part !!

Yeah, you got lucky.

I'm telling you the rules as per the agents.

Anyone can confrim my last question about taxes ?

Simple. It is based on "PORT OF ENTRY".

If UPS imports from NY via QUEBEC, you end up paying BOTH TAXES.

If they import VIA Ontario (Or any other province), you pay only one... (This is the same principle as if you buy from ontario or another province)

This is the MOST STUPID THING, but it's life... *banghead* *banghead*

As per the other part of your question... If the product is MADE OUTSIDE OF THE USA, you "can" end up paying 5% or 6% DUTY (Different from taxes) depending on country of origin.

Look, get this delivered to Plattsburgh and pick it up yourself and cross the border / clear customs...

they can still charge on a gift if they feel like it...they have to do it because shipping over the boarder is like going to the US for a day and coming home.... techinically your not suppose to come back wiht more than a 100$ for the day...or else everyone would just mark gifts and no one including companies would be paying any tax...

putting gift gives you a better chance but the best way is to put *warrenty Repair* Thats a direct quote from canada customs that way you can still insure it for whatever amount and not get charged cause techinicaly you already paid it ;) (i worked for canada post)

guess you got lucky. Simply marking it as a gift does not give you exemptions to pay duties and taxes. Read up before you believe everything you hear and read:

http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/import/courier/postal/ind_duty_free-e.html

If it is under 60$ it is tax free, if it is over 60$, its like any other package and the customs tarrifs apply.

Luc, on axles, expect to pay 6% duties. The only way you can avoid duties is by having the axles marked as tractor axles.

Call UPS, I heard that you can avoid brokerage fees by calling them with the tracking number. They will instruct you where to go to pay the taxes on it. Then you have to show up at UPS with the proof that you paid the taxes to pick up your package.

wtf i had so many clients at Dicom that shipped as gifts and everything went well
this is the first i hear of paying when its a GIFT
but if you guys say so then ill go with the flow

Cuz USOS charge tax and brokage too, I know coz I paid for that damn bill shipped from USPS.....

USPS is still better, but not always work...same as gift...

The only reason I can explain that is I did pay for the bills....even it marked Gift...ship with USPS...etc....it depends on your luck...

Put "gift" and you'll see your package in Frederiction shorty stucking there.....i work with ups weekly and I know :D
