News: Highway 20 eastbound speed limit dropped to 70km/h?

Wow there's about 500m of road before it actually switches? This fails hard if it's intentions were to make money by tickets. I wonder if it's a good thing or a bad thing that there's so much road in between... I wonder if people will be dumb enough to forget about that warning sign and just keep going 100+km/h

Is that an GC8?

It's going to be gradual, I told you guys 2 years ago, they plan on making all Highways 70 or 90 zones and say it's for the environment and safety.

Exactly! They are going to move 70 km/h zones 1 km every five years. In just a few millenias, their insidious plan will be complete!

i think it's because they opened up the bus lane.

Yeah, I just saw that today. They weren't painted yet when I first passed, but I guess they really don't have a choice since there's no reserved shoulder anymore...

I just hope their decision for new Bus routes actually work...

So from my calculations it appears that they've reduced the limit over a span of about 3km (45th ave to 1st ave where it was already a 70km/h limit). They likely did this because traffic always stops dead at 32nd ave and now there will less of a chance of people rear ending each other who maybe were not familiar with the traffic patterns. Annoying, yes, but not quite worth the big freak out in my opinion. Keep in mind, 99% of drivers are not young guys in sports cars who think they are driving in the Indy 500. Most drivers are ignorant, distracted and have very little driving ability whatsoever in my opinion. This limit is to protect them and sadly the people who know how to drive will suffer a little. I can't fault the government for trying to protect people's lives though. I know a person who is partially paralyzed from being rear ended on this stretch of the 20 and it's a damn shame.

Still going to go 160 like I've done for years without ticket.

So instead of educating those drivers, we limit, restrict and limit more than ever.

Great!

Sad to day, I have no arguments here. However, this isn't a reason to not educate drivers. I think we should be looking overseas (cough Germany, cough Finland) for proper instruction, licensing and (shock) vehicle inspections.

In two, three years they will put 90 limits everywhere. These people don't give a shit about what you and me think and who and when we elect them. They are a mafia with revolving doors and I bet you top dollar that they are laughing all the way to the bank.

WAKE UP, wake up wake up.

I drove that patch yesterday, some people were doing 120 and others 70, just like you predicted. It was a cluster fuck.
