I have an acquaintance who was visited by police recently.
She was told that someone reported a hit and run in which her vehicle matched the description.
She was questioned and photos were taken of her car.
The hit and run in question was with a stationary vehicle.
From what I was told I would assume that the damages to the other vehicle are under $2,000.
What charges and penalties may arise from this?
I'm also assuming that these would be criminal charges.:dunno:

If all that's at stake is some property damage, then I would assume she's in for a ticket under the Highway safety code or wtv it's called.

Its $600+ and something like 9 points if my memory serves me right.

I woulnd't worry about a Criminal code charge tho

Was she involved or not?
I'm not sure that I've been told the whole story.
It's possible someone else may have been driving her car at the time.:dunno:
The question still remains what may be the charges and can she end up with a criminal record?
That would definitely affect her future chances for employment in her field of study.
She will be finishing university this year.

I doupt very much she could end up with criminal charges.
Unless they can prove she intended to hit the car, or have information that she was drunk at the time.
But never the less. You friend ( aquaintance ) SHOULD if she was involved contact a lawyer. This is going to get expensive.
If she was not involved but someone else was driving her car, she should tell the police. I would not take the fall for someone i trusted with my car. No F...ing way.

This will affect her inssurance premiums for years to come.

She's a friend of a friend.
I already told her to get a lawyer.
I'm sure that if she wasn't driving that it was because she was in no condition to drive in the first place.
The story is too screwed up to make any sense and I can't figure out if she doesn't want to look guilty or if she's covering for someone else.
The cost is not much of an issue as compared to this affecting her future chances for employment.
