Agree... The world is changing, old businesses need to adopt. If you can't well to bad....
@blackrex: How do you think the comagny's selling road maps felt when the GPS was invented and distributed to the public? And its this is just one exemple of many... Technology is changing everything. If your industry can't adopt, it will disapear.
It is not about adapting.
It is an industry which has licensing requirements.
You need to pay the fees associated with the business just like any other.
In the taxi industry you need to have not only a taxi permit but it must be for the region where you operate.
A taxi driver from Laval cannot just decide to drive downtown and pick up fares.
At the same time you need a pocket number to drive a cab which means you must first get a class 4C license then pass an exam.
The taxi pays $831.19 for plates within the city and $925.69 outside the city.
Using your logic you should be able to put a still in the corner of a room to make your own alcohol and a stage for a live band in the other corner and open up a saloon.
You would need a permit for the still, a license to distill spirits, a liquor license to sell the liquor which also has conditions that go as far as dictating what kind of music live acts can perform. Actually you even need a permit for the lit sign in front of the bar.
These are brick and mortar businesses with physical property and they must play by the rules laid out or there will be consequences.
When they don't play by the rules they avoid paying fees which get paid to the government.
It is money that should be going towards paying for everything the government does for us.
I won't get into the whole big government issue because we will be here for the next 10 years.
Do I think this woman should have been fined for doing what she did?
No, she seems to have actually been properly advertising what seems like a logical ride share.
She goes to Freeport Forwarding to pick up parcels and splits her cost with people who need to go out of the country to renew their visas.
I am in heating , ventilation , and air conditioning.
MY employees must be licensed and trained by going to school then having apprenticed under a master for 4 years to become HVAC mechanic.
I need to pass exams administered by the CMMTQ (La Corporation des maîtres mécaniciens en tuyauterie du Québec)
I need pass 3 exams to be licensed by the RBQ (La Régie du bâtiment du Québec)
administration;
safety management on construction sites;
projects management and site management.
My employees must also pay dues to a union and the CCQ.
The day somebody can fix or install your heating or air conditioning over the internet is very far away still
Edited to add:
Everything we do in society has rules even the sports we love.
Nobody can arbitrarily decide tomorrow that they no longer want to pay either business taxes or property taxes or income taxes.
The whole issue at hand here is taxation and licensing and nothing else.
