iPhone 3G/3GS 3.1.3 SAFE jailbreak for tethering?

Can someone tell me if I can, or where I can find how to jailbreak an iPhone with 3.1.3 firmware so I can tether with a 500mb data plan?

I've been searching, but most walkthroughs I found are either unclear, or state that it's unsafe.

Is it as easy as loading Blackra1n, and getting it done? Which apps do I need from Cydia/Rock?

clockwork, what do you mean "jailbreaking is free with Rogers"? I doubt I can go to a Rogers store and ask them to jailbreak my phone.

500mb is more than enough, and it's really for the times when I need to use my laptop urgently for about 5-10 minutes.

I've been streaming internet radio and probably 2-3 full habs games on the Justin.tv app this month. I'm at 80% of my data usage, and I'm days away from the end of my billing cycle.

If you're surrounded by wifi most of the time, you really don't need a big data plan.

Whether it can be done or not and how easy it is to do depends on the firmware, not the service provider!

errr. . . sorry, my bad.

I meant to say "tethering" is a free service that doesn't need jailbreaking.

go to :

- Settings
- general
- network
- internet tethering

turn it on.

Then plug your iphone to your computer (or use bluetooth) and your comp. will see it as a network.. Connect to it and you're good.


but be careful, 500 megs may go quickly on a computer...
 
Tethering is disabled if your plan is under 1gb, which is why I'm looking for a jailbreak to allow me to do so.

I don't plan on using it a lot, only times when I need to connect remotely with my laptop for a few minutes.
 
^^ ah that sucks man. Not sure about the 3.1.3 unfortunately. I know Blackrain hasn't come with it yet, but there are some site that claim they pulled it off with no issues.. good luck!
 
how do you unlock when you jailbreak. it doesn't seem to be have an unlock for the new baseband yet and its pissing me off. i did spirit which can jailbreak the 3.1.3 but no unlock yet...................
