is there any harm when sleeping, where your head rests is near an electrical outlet?

I mean, would the EMF of the outlet be enough to cause long term or short term negative effects?

thanks..

yes its bad. you should wear one of these on your head if you decide to sleep next to the outlet:

^ Reminds me of Scary Movie 3 when the guy unfolds it as a Hershey Kiss candy! :p

as for danger.. with all the waves around from cells, wireless net,etc I don't think it really matters anyway.

I have one sitting half an inch over my bed where my head is...so I would like to know too lol

But I don't think there would be any harm in that anyways.

The frequency (60hz) and the amount of energy leaking from a regular outlet is not sufficient to cause harm, either short or long term. Outlet such as those have been around for decade, and I have slept next to those for years and there is nothing to fear.

However, if you want to be scraed of something, stay away from your cell phone (the frequencies used are near what you see in a microwave oven - would you stick your head in the microwave? That's what you do everytime you speak on the phone...) and possibly stay away from very high tension electrical lines - but I mean very close, because EMF effects are not that long range...

You won't have any more harm than sleeping next to any wall that has hidden electric wires in it. For every study that says that EMF is harmful, there is a counter study proving it has no effects.

Truthfully, the only research study I've seen that has anything is where they had an electromagnet pressed directly onto a lab rat's head, generating over 10.000.000 times the field that a high voltage line (i.e. the ones the VERGLAS took out 10 years ago) at the same distance.

The rat did develop some tumors but in human terms, it means that to have any effect, you'd need a 10.000.000 x 10.000V line applied to your brain. Since this would kill you instantly anyways, I pretty much guarantee that any tumor that would subsequently occur would be the least of your worries.

For the record, my daughter sleeps in a bed above an electrical outlet. I wouldn't allow it if I had ANY doubts.

I've always wondered if cordless phones have same frequencies like cell phones?

Thanks everone, merci tout le monde!

at least now I know I won't be waking up with no more hair or weird formations on my head!
I know in the walls, there are electrical wiring but they are "sheilded" as opposed to the open outlets..

thanks again everyone... now I can sleep without paranoia! ahahah

x2, very very little leakage. In fact when something is plugged into the wall the leakage goes up multiple times then simply not having anything plugged.

so the outlet where my head is near when I'm sleeping, I shouldn't plug anything into it?

That's not what I meant. Both are safe. Leakage through wires only is very minimal, leakgage through electrical devices pluged in is a lot higher. That's all.
