I think we have a very different definition of what ''old'' is. 10 year old car for alot of diy'rs is nothing if its not rusted out.

And financially, considering average car payment are 800 a month, even if you are very bad lucked with breakdown and its costs you 5k in repair that year, you are still in your wallet. More so if you do your own repair.

Anyway thats my opinion, if one day I can really no longer find parts for older cars then I'll have no choice to buy those ipad/data gatherer on wheels. But I guess by that time, we'll no longer drive anyway....

A 10 year old car is old and when heavy maintenance especially on euro brands starts getting out of control with costs. Even less age these days with rockers busting on audi 2.9.. or Macan 3.0 goes pop, that will be 15-20k minimum

If you can fix it yourself all the better. Sinking large money into a 10-12 year old A4 or Q5 is insane. Just the repair industry in general is getting harder to be in. Parts aside you are also dealing continuous staff shortages, the young guys aren’t dumb they leave after 2-3 years for another field with way less stress. The client base especially the cars n coffee crowd is impossible to deal with. Older cars in general going forward will be hard to keep on the road
 
^^^i guess for euro cars . I've never owned one. But I've owned many many 10+ year old American cars...and what's heavy maintenance? The max I've put is 4k in a year....still cheaper then 800$/m payments....what's crazy is that people find that normal! Let's not even take insurance into consideration....

And rust is not normal on a 10 year old car either. Rust proofing works! It's like magic apparently! 😂😂😂

Ecoboost timing chains, gearboxes, blah blah blah. Congrats it works for you. People should spend 20+ years in the industry and not just cherry pick their own experiences
 
Lool I guess I've been right all along about euro reliability But I do think ur cherry picking ur bad experiences on certain models.

Some cars are money pits! I'll give u that....

But in general, the amount of 10 + old cars on the road, I highly doubt people are sinking 5-6k/year on them just in maintenance....

Plus with all the info out there, not hard to find what cars are reliable and which ones aren't.

Moindrement que tu veux un char qui est équipé et ajoute les assurances à 150$-200$ par mois t'es pas loins pentoute.
A moins que tu entre dans la gammick de mettre ça sur 8 ans.

Tu peux te prendre une cariole Coréenne essentials pour 563$ par mois

Jetta trendline t'es a 573$

Le problem c'est que le used coute pas moin chere....surtout quand tu finance!

So tu Fini avec Les meme paiement pour une char used, pas de garantie...

And people don't have 20k cash to pay the car outright...and they wouldn't buy a 20k car anyways pcq ca parait pas bin in char de base....as said earlier loooool

Remember when u could of gotta a clean, low mileage, reliable car for 5k and less....

The good old days hahaha

Moyen crédit autour de 9
Faible crédit...mieux tu achète une trottinette

En plus il y a une demande élevés pour des usagers donc plus de crosse ( mécanique défaillant.. odo trafiqué)

On est plus dans l'époque une corrola camry 2003 a 14K $ usagers mécanique simple réparation facile.

Sinon moi j'avais signé a 6 sur le tiguan mais j'avais pris le CPO pour avoir garantie 2 ans full full (de vw pas une cochonerie d'une compagnie externe) J'avais un meilleur taux avec sa.
 
C'est dont ben weird le ''son'' des equinox EV. On dirait de l'orgue lol et en plus le son est incroyablement fort il me semble. J'entend le son clairement à 100-200m.

The 5-7k was a sweet spot because you could pay cash and get a good car like a Mazda 3. Now that 7k car is what the $1000 beater was

14k$ en ce moment ça paye une camry de 10 ans, 170 000km.

Mon premier char avait ça 10 ans et 170 000km, je l'ai payé 1000$ Une belle pontiac grand am 1994

Tout le monde était content en région quand les concessionnaires ramassait ton truck de 2-3 ans, te le changeait pour un neuf au même prix, et shipait ça aux USA ! Après y'a eu la Covid

Et là on a un sacré trou dans le used. La fourchette des pick-up usagé de 20k à 40k est inexistante. ça pousse les affaires décrissé et feni à des prix innocent, et les affaires comme la mienne propre et bien équipé, sont pas ben ben moins que ce que je l'ai payé v'la 4 ans!

J'ai acheté une cavalier 97 (z24 lol) en 2005 qui avais même pas 150k pour 200$ lol (Bon c'étais un deal completement idiot)

Je l'ai quand même revendu presque 1 ans plus tard pour 1800$.
Encore la c'étais vraiment pas cher
 
Another thing that isn’t being talked about is rental cars were a HUGE source of used cars. Now rental car companies are keeping vehicles in fleet for way way longer
