Need info on modded 996 porsche

Ok so I've been pondering on acquiring a 996 TT and I took the liberty of checking out the typical mods done and I'm really impressed with how easily it can be boosted to 500+ hp.

However I'd like some local input on the reliability of the 996 when mods have been installed.

Any local guys here care to give some honest reliability issues and possibly a good place to get the mods done ?

Send a pm to Puma and Atgrills and I think MontrealM3 had one at some point as well. All three aren't very active on the forum.

The owner of VAG Motorsport got a modified 996 turbo and track with it all summer long without any problems. He also got some parts for sale if interested:

GT2 K24 Borg Wagner turbos
380mm 8 pistons Porsche/Brembo calipers - Red
Champion Motorsport RS98 19" forged wheels
Gemballa rear trunk/wing

His daily driver is a E92 M3, his streetable track car is a 996 turbo with Gt28 and a 997 Gt3 Cup front end!

Like they said, Puma on the forum has one.

I wouldn't think it's very cheap to maintain though, so be careful and get it inspected by a competent mechanic. A 500$ inspection will save you money in the long run, and may allow you to lower the price a little.

I work on GT3 Cup cars, which share A LOT of parts with the street GT3 and GT3 RS and OEM parts can be very expensive...

For example: (not that these parts break often, but compared to other OEM's this is quite expensive)

- Power steering pump is around 1400$ + tax
- Rear Lower control arms are around 650$+ tax (each)

Here you go for the prices, just select 996 Turbo / GT2, you may be able to find cheaper but this gives a good estimate:

porsches are very expensive to repair.
the turbos engines are the most reliable, but when you get into modding.... who knows...

Outside of wear and tear items, the 996TT's GT1 block is damn near invincible. There were issues with 2nd gear pop outs on early models.

I've had a 996TT that I bought used about 5-6 years ago now (110,000 klms on it). I daily drove it for the first 2 years summer/winter with no issues at all. The only mods I have done are:

GIAC reflash
Replaced stock DV's
Fabspeed exhaust
Bilstien PSS9

It runs 11.6x 1/4 mile at 119 with these mods and they are as simple as it gets. I have had no reliability issues so far, just run 94 for the GIAC reflash map. So far here is a list of things I have had to fix:

Water pump bracket: 422$ total
CV boot: 52$ + install

I have a great garage where it doesn't cost me an arm and a leg to get things fixed on the car. Its been reliable, fast and fun with no headaches to speak of.

Combien ça peut coûter une conversion 997 à l'avant? Ça doit pas être donné mais ça rend la 996tt beaucoup plus récente et attrayante.

Very fast. Easy to make into a street killer. Obviously it's a P so can be expensive to repaire but the TTs are very reliable. Just keep in mind mods cost 5x on a P compare to a civic.. For example a exhaust is 2500-5000$ and you won't find any 500$ mods...
Mine has k24s, chipped, exhaust, evolution intake, diversion valves, 5bar FPR, stage 3 clutch, Light weight flywheel, roll cage, carbon Gt3 RS seats, H&R coilovers, HRE rims...
On a civic that maybe 10-15gs of mods, but on a TT it's like 75gs... So yes they are very expensive to mod, but you make 500hp very easily!
Good luck!

And if I get the x50 engine model upgrade that has like 450 hp , can a tune make it even faster or is it basically just tuned by the factory to get that extra power ?

Ya I heard k24's are the way to go but that 2nd gear pop out thing kinda frightens me.

From the research I've done so far it seems like the car can easily handle basic mods like tune etc but I'm just worried about the reliability if I push it passed 500 whp

It's not a car I would want to invest heavily on and I don't want to get stuck constantly having to reach in my pockets to maintain my extra power from modding.

A 997 is out of the question because I can't afford a TT version as of now and I honestly love the way the 996 looks with the gt3 kit on ( techart isn't bad as well)

Thanks so far for those of u taking ur time to help me out btw

X50 package 911 TT seems to come with the k24's which can hold 700 hp if u modify the internals so that could be interesting as well.

Decisions decisions.

6speedonline.com, that's the Site you want to ask your question since there's a section on the forum just for 911's.

I think you mean you like the GT2 look.
The 996TT are pretty low in price now, considering you can find a nicely modded example for around $50k.
I really like this one with the GT2 look.
