Network monitoring and bandwidth

Do you guys know of a program that can monitor network bandwidth, sort of like a network benchmark? Also, that can perhaps identify which protocols is using the bandwidth?

I've tried network sniffers such as Ethereal, which is great for packet capture but havent seen how perhaps to benchmark the network and see whats using most of the traffic.
