Teen-party parents may face $20,000 bill after 500 rampage

THE parents of a teenager who held a party that spiralled out of control while they were holidaying say they are "devastated, shocked, horrified and absolutely disgusted" at their son's actions.

Steve and Jo Delaney said today they would be sitting their son Corey, 16, down with police and discussing whether he should be charged, the Courier Mail reports.

The livid couple lashed out at their son as they flew home this afternoon from a family holiday on the Gold Coast to confront Corey about the wild party where police were pelted with bottles, gardens trampled and neighbours terrorised by rampaging youths.

"We're absolutely disgusted that he could do this, not only to us but to our neighbourhood,'' Mrs Delaney said.

Meanwhile furious police chief Christine Nixon may bill the Delaney parents up to $20,000 in costs.

But Corey, the unrepentant host, today merely joked about dodging the consequences - and his holidaying parents' phone calls.

"I don't answer their calls, I just hang up,'' Corey said. "When they get home, I'm not going to be home.''

Ms Nixon today said she was disgusted after officers were pelted with bottles, gardens were trampled, police cars were trashed and neighbours were terrorised by rampaging drunken youths at an unsupervised party in Narre Warren South at the weekend.

"I thought it was appalling to see the way those young people treated police officers," Ms Nixon said.

Police, who estimated the crowd at 500, had to retreat until back-up arrived, including the air wing and the dog squad. More than 30 officers were needed to control the unruly crowd.

Corey said he had no intentions of being home when his parents returned. They have cut their interstate holiday short and were due back later today after learning of the mayhem.

Corey said he knew only 100 of the 500 who turned up and boasted that they had ignored police requests to stop the party.

"They (police) knocked on the door and told us to call off the party and we said we will but we didn't,'' he said on radio station Nova.

Corey vowed to dodge the consequences - and his parents - for as long as possible.

In a dramatic development, Ms Nixon has ordered a report on the cost to police, which she believed was up to $20,000.

And she served notice on other youths intending to create havoc.

"I have a word for young people who are having those sort of parties - don't do it.

"It's not a good thing to do at all and it might cost your family or yourself a very substantial amount of money.

"We want to understand exactly what happened and don't want to act too soon, but I am very unhappy about it, watching police officers treated in that fashion."

The teen who issued an open invitation on MySpace to the party at his family's house while his parents were away is unrepentant.

Corey acted out every parent's nightmare by staging the party while they were holidaying in Queensland.

Ms Nixon said police occasionally billed community members.

"In this case, our cars have been damaged, it will be difficult for us to determine exactly who damaged the cars, but that young man called the party, invited people there and has a responsibility,'' she said.

Terrified neighbours in Narre Warren South said they feared for their families and homes as a sea of drunken youths lured by the open invitation on the social networking website smashed bottles and destroyed letterboxes.

Corey told the Herald Sun he was expecting 200. He conceded large amounts of alcohol were consumed by the young crowd.

"It was just an open house party and a lot of people came and it overflowed on to the street," Corey said.

"The cops came and told all the people to quiet down and get inside. It just kept getting bigger and bigger.

"There were people bottling cars and the whole streets were flooded with people. We knew we'd get about 200 but there was probably about 300, 400 easily."

Linda Guillou, who has lived in Galloway Drive for seven years, said she feared for her two children after teens spilled on to her front lawn. She said her husband armed himself with a cricket bat.

Mrs Guillou called police after a bird bath in her garden was kicked over.

"The second time we notified the police we were starting to get a little bit frightened for the children because things were getting broken."

Rose Layton, a grandmother who lives nearby, was shocked by the rampage.

"They were going to the toilet out the front, throwing bottles and jumping on cars," Mrs Layton said.

"There was such a mass of them. We were terrified."

Police said the party was out of control.

"We're really lucky none of our officers were injured," Sen-Sgt Russell Patten said. "You've got criminal damage, discharging missiles and conduct endangering persons."

Corey's parents cut short their holiday and are expected home today.

Josh, 16, who was at the party, claimed police inflamed the situation when they tried to break up the crowd.

"Everyone was just here to have a bit of fun and then the cops came and stuffed everything up," he said.

Things got worse when a youth paraded naked in front of the media at the house yesterday.

Victoria Police have seized tapes from TV news crews and are investigating possible charges against the man after he ran down the street with no clothes on.

Hahaha that kid is hilarious. What difference was it gonna make if he took off his glasses off or not? She seemed so offended when he said he wasnt taking them off.

Best line for sure is "Get me to do it for you" when hes asked what advice he would give.
