The Porsche Pajun has been delayed and debated for over a year, but it appears that German automaker is poised to give its Panamera junior model the green light for production.
If the Pajun does get the green light, it will mark the first time that Porsche has entered the mainstream market segment that has been ruled by the BMW 5-Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class models. Though once the model gets the approval, it won’t be hitting showrooms until 2016 at the earliest but the Pajun is an essential part of the automaker’s plan to sell 200,000 units annually by 2018.

Though back in May, Automobile mag reported it might compete with the CLS.

The Porche Cajun was only recently named the Macan, so we don’t know yet what the badge on the trunk of the production Pajun will read; we do know for sure the bonsai Panamera is an active project. After all, chairman Matthias Müller recently told the German business weekly Wirtschaftswoche that “such a model would make an attractive addition to the range in about five to six years from now.” While the Macan is a joint effort with Audi, home of all Volkswagen Group mid- to full-size crossovers and SUVs, the 193-inch long Pajun is a Porsche through and through.

I'm not sure what to think of this. I'd much rather Porsche stay a sports car manufacturer. Of course this could bring in new clients who never thought of owning a Porsche, and who might buy a 911 someday. Depends which way you look at it.

Porsche sells more Cayenne's than 911s... Porsche until the release of the Boxster was always on the verge of going out of business year after year. I see nothing wrong with them having more models to sell as long as it's a tasteful car :)

If they're going to be adding more cars to the lineup they should consider backing away from putting the 911 front end. I get the whole brand identity BS, but what's the point of branding this as a Porsche exactly? Time for a new banner...

I agree. It's just that everything is so ugly. I like the first gen Cayenne. Current one, not so much. I love the front of the Panamera, but we can all agree the back is lacking.

This overall looks pretty good. At first I didn't even notice the rear doors. I think it needs more of a trunk though. It's as though somebody got lazy and stretched a 911. I actually think the front end of this is better than the 991.

Also, what's a Pajun and how do I pronounce it?

When you get an e class or a 5 series, its for a grown up image. This does not convey that at all. It might end up a solid car, and a solid 4 door porsche, but it's not exactly in the same segment imo.

Grand master plan of VAG, maximize all platforms. I see the rear end of an Audi mixed with a 911 front end. As long as the 911 survives, Porsche can build a minivan for all I care. Let them make money from these vehicles as long as their DNA survives.

Fait a remarquer qu'ils etaient encore plus mal pris avant les 924/944 et 928. Quije souligne jouissait a l'epoque d'une technologie plus avancêe encore aijourd'hui que la corvette. Dans les années 70!
