Stumbled on this thread, that's awesome, so many cool watches here.
I have a hamilton Jazzmaster Open heart that I wear often. I'm really into small manufacturers and bespoke stuff, but I can't afford a 20k watch...
Started being really interested in watches when I was looking for a watch for my dad. If you look in the 1.5k - 2.5k range, realistically you'll just get an off the shelf Hamilton, Swatch or Tag with nothing special. So I looked into making my own, I knew the movements were all the same, with most brands ''customising'' an off the shelf ETA movement. I have access to CNC lathes, 5 axis mills and I know how to operate them, so I figured it can't be that hard can it ?
The first watch I made was this one (blurry picture, will get better ones). This one was just assembled, with all off the shelf parts, you have to start somewhere right ?
Swiss made ETA movement that's been skeletonised, black anodised and machined in an art-deco pattern. It was done by a small company I know in Switzerland that specialises in this kind of thing. I recieved the movement as is, had to install the hands, adjust the stem.
The case is an off the shelf 40mm modern design with flat front glass that's recessed in the front of the case (so you can't scratch it).
Hands are art deco style gold that I painted red.
This is the 2nd watch I made, it's a dark gray ETA movement that's been skeletonised, same as above but different design and it came in peices so I had to put it together.
Case is a 44mm genuine B-Uhr with domed sapphire glass in front and mineral glass in the back, it's really awesome.
Had to machine a spacer and custom brackets because the movement was too small for the big case, you can see the spacer on the outer edge if you look closely.
1st trial, with luminor (glow in the dark) blue hands and grand prix strap. I damaged the hands and wasn't really happy with the overall look.
2nd trial,
You couldn't really see the blue on the luminor hands before, so I changed them to standard (not glow in the dark) hands that matched with the blue screws.
Changed the strap to a bright blue color.
I've got another one in the works now based on a 2nd world war German Airforce design with a Laco stainless steel case. Will post, should be completed next week.
What do you guys think ?
