Are you guys using any slow chargers on your summer cars or bike.. i bought two napa 1.5 amps chargers for my FRS and my Ninja... i ve never done it in the past and killed some batteries, hopefully this time i can spare that... i installed the first one on the bike and right away it said that it was charged, but i do start it about once a month for a good 20-30 minutes but the FRS has been grounded since october and that one seems to be charging right now, hopefully it wasnt too late, it was disconnected since then also.. what are you guys using

Never used those, usually start my summer ride once every 2 or 3 months for a good 30mins. Never had any battery drained.
Your battery is brand new, so you should be good.

I stored my previous car for 7 winters in a row. I just unplugged the battery and thats it. It always started in the spring. The original battery lasted 9 years (car was a 2000).

That's really a bad habit, you create moisture in your engine by doing that. Never start a car you dont plan on rolling.

Starting a car and shutting it down right away isn't really good...

But for 10-15 minutes I dont see anything wrong it's made for that...

En fait pour maintenir ta charge durant l'hiver tu devrait plutot utiliser un mainteneur de charge plutot qu'un chargeur qui pousse continuellement du courant sur ta batterie

The Battery Tender® Plus is a 1.25 amp battery charger designed to fully charge a battery and maintain it at proper storage voltage without the damaging effects caused by trickle chargers. Included is a quick connect ring terminal harness for hard to reach areas and alligator clips for an alternate connection.

Strait pipe in the garage isnt good even when the garage door is open so i just unpluged the battery and hope its gona start this spring or ill have to charge it up !

Hey guys.

A trickle charger is designed to maintain your battery. It can slow-charge your battery up to full, and then keep it there. You can use it while it is plugged into the car, or not. Some vehicles have a large "power draw", especially if they have anti-theif systems installed (boomerage, alarm, etc). I always suggest unplugged the battery, and then using the trickle charger. The best solution is to actually keep your battery inside your house.

As for starting the car in the winter-time, we all know that cold weather starts are bad for the engine. There is no oil circulation for those first few seconds, the oil is thick, and since the car hasn't run in a while, there is no 'left over' oil still providing some lubrication like you have when you drive the car on a daily basis.

You put the same amount of wear on the engine, when you start it after 1 month, as you would if you started it after 6. The engine doesn't care. So why bother starting it every month. It doesn't help, and it doesn't "fix" or prevent anything.

Oil doesn't go bad, but it does take all the crap from the engine. Moisture, Metal particals, gas... There is a reason why there is a 'time' requirement for oil... 5,000km OR 3 months.

Do yourself a favour. Put the car on a charger, don't start the car, and just wait until the spring comes.

When it comes, there will generally be tips on what you can do to help the wear when you start the car for the first time; but if it is an OEM street car.. just turn the key!

By the way; SilverDub... In your picture, it doesn't look like the negative is connected in the right spot. It's not on the main grounding cable???

I have one of those solar trickle chargers for my quad..works pretty good..They have bigger ones for cars too..

both the car anf the bike are inside and warm, i dont start the car at all there is no point but i do start the bike because it uses carburetors and i dont want the screens to get clogged because that would be a pain in the ass, i also bring in the lawn mower inside once or twice during the winter and it get warm a day or two then i start it for a good half an hour, then back outside the day after

You think that idling for 15minutes really brings your oil at operating temperature? think again.

My car is in the garage heated around 15C, so this is not an issue for me + let the car run for at least 30mins.
