It's a road rally where fuel economy counts! This will be the third year running the same route. C'est ouvert a tous et c'est ben le fun en n'importe quelle voiture.

OK, premier bump!

I went and verified the route today and had a great time. Voir le video teaser. Yes, the rally starts and finishes on Boulevard Celine Dion. Je m'excuse pour 0:05 a 0:17 dans le video... :eek:

I don't see any conflict. Would indeed be cool to have a motorcycle class. The only requirement would be that you have a programmable GPS or a place to hold the instructions on your tank bag. And of course the bike must legally run on all Quebec highways (no scooters).

Hope you can make it and give the Smarts/Metros/Hybrids a run for their money. ;)

You will have fun! There are some sections that favour cars like the Prius, others that favour compact sports and others that favour small, light and aerodynamic cars. It's a good challenge to squeeze the most out of the Prius throughout.

I hacked this together in less than 3 hours from a 2x2x8, some fat screws and washers and some 5" lawn edging. :p

Il reste environ deux semaines pour s'amuser a preparer vos chars pour maximiser l'economie. ;)

The Levin chin spoiler project is now complete. Amazing what you can do with 5" lawn edging and a hacksaw. I should enter it into shows. :p

L'Economy Run est ouvert a tous, pas besoin d'une voiture economique, y'a rien a gagner anyway. Toute l'info se retrouve icitte. Don't be shy, these are some of the most exciting and tricky 198km you'll ever drive. ;)
 
Je trouve ça incroyable qu'un char des années 70 soit à battre.
Vraiment clean et aucune modification à la carrosserie comme la volks...

C'est quoi son secret ?

En fait, on ne le voit pas dans le photo, mais il avait du plexi devant son radiateur et peut-etre d'autres petits modifs aerodynamiques en avant. Mais Mike (le pilote) connait vraiment bien ses techniques de hypermilage et il est bien experimente en course pour pouvoir garder le maximum de momentum dans les virages et dans les descentes. En 2010 il disait qu'il avait le moteur ferme la moitie du parcours et je le crois. Cette annee il vient defendre son titre avec un Geo Metro: voir le thread sur ecomodder.com pour plein de details

Bien sur. Si tu regardes les resultats L/100km/tonne, les meilleurs resultats sont en 2010. En 2011, les Smart et le Datsun ont eu une meilleure economie MAIS pas par rapport au poids net des vehicules.

As an interesting point, in 1956, Robin Edwardes (a Canadian Motorsport Hall of Fame inductee and 2011 competitor) achieved 90mpg on the SMCC Economy Run in a Renault Dauphine with his three sons in the back and a pile of bricks in the passenger footwell!!! At that time they weighed the car on a scale to determine the L/100km/tonne score. And on that count, he only came third! A Mercedez Diesel won.

We had a Tesla showing interest from Ottawa, not sure if it will show up on Saturday or not. For the electrics, we're curious how they'll do over 198km of very mixed driving. To compare them with the fossil fuel cars we need to convert everything to energy units per distance per weight. I would really like it if some electrics showed up and created great competition and discussion of the results. :)
 
And here's the bad-a$$ SE-R that won in 2010, but done up with additional mods to achieve an incredible 3.06L/100km in a US Economy Run:

I find this really cool. I think a COMPLETELY stripped out 1.8t Golf with lots of aerodynamic stuff like that Sentra could be a nice competitor.
