Suivre de trop près un autre véhicule dans la mire des policiers de la SQ

The immigrants that can't speak English or French and are broke , said what ?

Solution to the problem, make a left lane law where if you're in the left and could/should have moved over it's a $1000 5 point fine. I'd bet almost anything that within 6 months of implementation road rage incidences would go down dramatically and there'd also be a slight improvement to overall road safety.

Regardless, at any speed, in any condition, for anything smaller then a semi-truck, 6 seconds distances (or more like they suggest) is utterly ridiculous and impossible to follow. The general rule of thumb was about 2-3 seconds and it always made sense.

It quite telling that a few here flip the topic around to their own little issue with slower traffic not opening up in front of them like the water for Moïse and would like harder penalty for THAT.

At a 100km/h with 6 seconds of distance in between cars, you only fit 6 cars per KM, per lane.

Also, food for the tough, modern and wiser countries are experimenting with "convoy" trucking. Linking trucks together (using cruise control) to allow them to follow closely and be more efficient and orderly. Not happening here...

I understand that they have to come up with a general rule of thumb and it's really hard to do but a "safe" following distance is hyper specific to a situation and we're all out of societal common sense in 2025.

Although the biggest fail on their part is the stupidity that is following based only on the car in front of you. Anybody watching only the car in front of them should effectively have their license revoked. Many times you're able to see 5-10 cars ahead and if you're monitoring their braking, the distance to the car directly in front of you is a little less important.

Exactly, and since no one ever does that, it reinforces the reasons why they siggest such a long distance.

The Dunning-Kruger effect is strong with you...

Lastly as some have pointed out, if you don't get close to some idiots in the left lane, they think that's permission to continue camping. Worst is when you have a camper who has 1 or 2 far followers protecting them. Basically the only option is to pass on the right at that point.

That would require our elected to have an IQ in the 3 digit range. Forget about it.
