Well I had a hole in the muffler of my 1990 Saab 900 Turbo.
So I got a new exhaust and took out the old muffler, then noticed some foam poking through the floor...
So after removing the interior and several hours of grinding...
HOLY SHIT!
I am just VERY happy the wiring harness didn't melt! The plastic over the asbestos covering on top started to get burned.
What happened is the heat shield over the catalytic converter rusted. The heat melted the undercoating and paint on the floor. The metal rusted away, water got in, and it just kept rusting!
On Saturday I am driving down to the US with a sawzall and cutting the floor off a '93 900 S which is supposed to be good. I miss my turbo whistle
So the moral of the story - make sure your heat shield on the cat is in good shape!!*frustrate
